Hi there,
I'm 17 weeks pregnant and have continued to follow a low carb diet as i seem to hypo's a lot when i bolus for meals and i don't enjoy injecting if i'm honest. I have a small toddler to run around after and the risk of hypo'ing gets me quite frustrated and depleted so i just don't eat carbs. The consultant today said 'baby needs carbs' and if 'i don't start eating carbs i will be using the fat stores as energy and producing ketones' which is obviously dangerous for the baby. Does anyone know if this true? I do eat some carbs, just very little. I don't check for ketones ever but never feel the need to? Is this just NHS talk of a 'balanced diet' or does anyone know of a healthy pregnancy following a low carb diet.
I don't want to be harming my unborn child but also don't want to be hypo'ing all over the place. Does my baby need carbs?
Thanks in advance.
Aby
