hi there @Noorulain
welcome to the forum.

here is a link to the bertie online carb counting course. https://www.bertieonline.org.uk/

You should speak with your diabetic nurse to enquire about getting on to a carb counting course near you.

we can't really give specific advice on the forum as we are all individual and different.

best of luck

That's a very unusual insulin regime to be on.

Novomix 30 has 30% fast acting insulin and 70% intermediate acting insulin.

The fast acting insulin in the novomix with have a peak at 90 mins after injecting and might be workin for up to 5hrs after injecting. The long acting insulin in the novomix will be working for 12 hrs after injecting. It's very unusual to be injecting mixed insulin 3 times a day because there will be a long period when the long acting insulins are overlapping, putting you at increased risk of hypos. Normally mixed insulin is taken twice a day: at breakfast and at dinner.

It's also very unusual to be taking a different long acting (levemir) on top of mixed insulin. Because mixed insulin already has long acting in it.

So you're takin 4 shots of background insulin a day. When you go to bed you have the background from lunchtime novomix, from evening novomix and from bedtime levemir working. That doesn't seem like a safe place to be.

Why do you have novomix and levemir but no separate bolus insulin?

The Bertie course explains carb counting for those on a basal/bolus insulin regime. You aren't on a basal bolus regiem, you're on a strange mixed insulin 3times a day + extra basal insulin regiem. With mixed insulin you need to know carb counting to know how many grams on carbs our mixed dose can deal with and stick to eating a specific number of carbs with each meal. That's different to carb counting on a basal/bolus regiem where you adjust you bolus dose to deal with eating whatever you fancy.

Hi. I agree that's a very unusual insulin regime and I would ask your GP/DN why you are having a mixed insulin together with a Basal insulin and not in line with NICE guidance. The NICE standard for T1s is the Basal/Bolus where the meal-time Bolus would be something like NovoRapid or similar. You can't easily balance for meals when taking a mixed insulin such as Novomix30.
