Hi guys

Thinking of going to the cinema. I know you guys will probably say that I shouldn't eat sweets, but as long as I take the correct insulin it'll be alright, am I right in saying?

Furthermore, how would I work out the amount of carbs in a bag of Pick 'n' Mix sweets from the cinema?

With pick 'n' mix you will know the weight of the bag, and I'd assume 75-80g per 100g would be carbohydrate (based on haribo & fudge type sweets). It is entirely up to you if you want to eat sweets ;)

A quick Google search says they are 60g of carbs in a 100g of Candy King Pick N Mix, its entirely up to you want you want to eat.

As there's a variation in the carbs per 100g of sweets and so many sweets to choose from , and say, I injected for 60g of carbs per 100g of sweets like you say, what would happen if the sweets had 65g of carbs or even 70 or more carbs and I only injected for 60g? Do I risk having a hyper?

no, you risk going high as you didn't inject enough insulin, but this is probably best.........rather than low....

even better would be to buy a pre packed sweet like minstrels etc, carbs are on the back.....yay....

my experience is always being a bit high at these places, but its a treat and you can only do your best so don't stress too much....

Your asking the wrong person as I don't eat sweets @TakeItAway88

However if your unsure of the carb content of anything (even if its a restaurant meal) then IMHO its best to give a reduced dose and correct later if high rather than go hypo and ruin your day out.

Ok thank you very much. That's really helpful

Ok then. Thank you

@TakeItAway88 I've eaten sweets at the cinema, but I tend to buy a small bag rather than Pick and Mix. The carbs are on the back of the bag. I also go for chocolate covered ones like Revels or Poppets as some of the others are pretty much pure sugar and will put my blood sugar up faster than my insulin can work.

I do the same with popcorn - take or buy a small bag with the carbs on. I find cinema portions enormous, even the drinks.

I'm on a pump so I also put a temporary basal rate on as for some reason the cinema can out my blood sugar up. This may be because I usually go in the afternoon and so I'm far less active than my normal afternoon. But it's another thing to take into account possibly.

You could also have the sweets after a meal so that the absorption of the sugar is slowed a bit.
