This evening I made the hot choc with cream as mentioned by Brunneria, I've never tried it that way before, and very nice it was too. But how do I calculate the carbs in it?

How much cocoa, milk and cream did you put in it? Did you put unsweetened cocoa or hot chocolate powder?

Hi ewelina. One teaspoon (heaped) of real cocoa powder, about a table spoon (if not more:oops:) of cream and boiling water - no milk.

Its all like nothing :) It would be about 5g cocoa which is 0.7g plus cream which would be 5ml = 0.07g! Drink as much as you like as long you use sweetener not sugar :)

Ooh brilliant! Yes, I use sweetener, not sugar - thanks xx:D

@4ratbags
Did a double take on the "will have to try this in winter" until I remembered that you were in "The land of the long white cloud" (NZ) rather than "The land of the raining clouds" (UK):rolleyes:

Why wait for winter 4r? I know it's scorching there but choc is choc - make it and let it cool down. Tepid choc!

It was absolutely scorching yesterday and apparently they are starting water restrictions in town but its meant to bucket down today ( will believe it when I see it ) so as a treat I think I will have one before bed. Best wishes to everyone who is a bit soggy in the UK.

Welcome to the luxury of low carb drinking - adding cream to your coffee and hot cocoa. :p You can also add peppermint or orange essence to your cocoa for variety, or a sprinkle of cinnamon to either drink. I used to have a Jewish workmate and she introduced us to her version of mocha, a combination of coffee and drinking chocolate with milk. I sometimes make it now using coffee, cocoa and cream with a drop or two of stevia, and sometimes a bit of cinnamon - a nice comfort drink in the cold miserable weather...

My Green & Blacks cocoa has 19g carbs per 100g weight, and their nutritional info says a teaspoon's worth weighs 4g which would be 0.76g carbs. I allow approx 1g carbs for a slightly heaped teaspoon full. Cream has negligible carbs; Tesco's thick and double cream, which I use, have 1.5g carbs per 100ml, and their single cream slightly more; a tablespoon contains 30ml = 0.45g carbs, a round 2g carbs total ingredients per drink has little impact on a low carb diet, and it's also a good source of fat. Drinking chocolate will contain many more carbs as it's sweetened, so is quite a different matter!:eek:

Well...wait for it...I didn't like cream very much until recently!:wideyed: I found it too rich to stomach, making me feel queasy, I also have to be careful with what I eat for other tum related reasons. I seem to have got over that, and am adding it to coffee instead of milk, a spot in my jellies, the hot choc..

It's a leap of faith because although I cut the carbs majorly when I was initially diagnosed in 2011, I have always been able to eat a small amount with no effect on my bg levels at all - my weight loss has helped that too. I've had no massive change in levels, just higher than I would want on a couple of occasions, plus I have put weight back on, and I want it off. So, trying the low carb approach fully for a week, no spuds, pasta, rice, don't eat bread anyway - bumping up the veg. I'm hoping to see a bit of weight loss, fingers crossed!
