As a well controlled T2 who has had lost and maintained over 5 stones (70lb ) and had HbA1c's in the mid 5's for 8 years I would say categorically:
Control carbs to control blood glucose levels.
and
Control calories to lose weight.
I say control rather than count as the only time I have ever counted carbs was when I was using insulin for the first 12 months after I was diagnosed almost 8 years ago now and I have never ever counted calories. I just ate a lot less
You wont control BG by counting calories and you wont lose weight just by cutting carbs if you are still eating too many calories.
