Around 100 g - but depends on your level of control. Do you know your HbA1c or finger prick blood glucose readings?
I started low carb by simply cutting down on all the obvious carbs. Now the only carbs I eat are in veg & fruit. I have carefully checked - I even bought a dietary computer scale & kept & analysed a food diary. Once you get into an eating pattern that keeps your levels averaging about 6, & HbA1c below say 6.5 (preferably below 6) yo should be OK.
I don't upset my friends by refusing what they offer - I simply accept what I know I can eat, & politely decline what I can't. Occasionally someone says, "a little won't hurt you" or "I am diabetic & I eat it" but hold your ground. It's worth it to maintain your health. And don't believe what the official diet leaflets say about needing to eat carbs. We don't.
Thanks, that's good to know, no not testing yet, nurse not said if I should but after reading stuff on here think I will buy one, seems like the best way forward now and will help me feel in control, would you recommend any?

Manufacturers are eager to give them away - so they can supply the tests strips. The forum hope page offers this. Try to get test strips on prescription.
