The censorship on this site is a joke!

That is all I can be bothered to say, I'm off to another site where posters are treated like adults and can talk and debate as they like.

Wrong, its not about censorship, its about sponsorship (advert $). Complications are not pretty, not pretty doesn't sell.

Diabetics are supposed to fat, fat people are jolly, jolly gets sponsors.

This is private enterprise. :shh:

I dare say there are quite a number of posters who are feeling like that Ashleigh :(

Hello, All good forums no matter what the subject should be moderated and they turn out to be the best keeping offensive material and fools in check. If you want go to another forum but you will prob find that it is moderated if you find one that is not good luck it is an invitation to any fool to say anything they want, including giving maybe dangerous inaccurate advice to say diabetics which can put lives at risk.

I like the site here and do not find the fact that it is moderated a point of safety. I myself moderate a clan forum and being a gaming community is more essential. Here is a good cheers to those who give up their free time to help us here a big thanx  . As for the word censorship thats too strong it is called moderation.

All the best

There was nothing offensive in the grim reaper thread, that I saw, there was also no arguing or name calling etc, the only person that didn't like what was being said seemed to be Anna.

I never did see an answer to my question where I asked her whether she would leave newbies to carry on with high bs or whether she would tell them of complications so they could make an informed choice on how there'd like to manage their diabetes. And also, how exactly she'd go about telling them - if she chose to do so. Does anyone know if she answered or did she just delete the thread?

It is called moderation when the "dangerous" posts you refer to are pulled. It's called censorship when perfectly rational and sound discussions are pulled

well said Grazer. I posted on that thread. I read that thread. Nothing was said that was rude, contentious, offensive, dangerous or untrue.

I wsn't going to post again because I m so shocked with all that has occurred -suddenly nd inexplicably - but I can't be part of any conspircy to delude fellow sufferers about the possible consequences of their condition.

I hve ried to help anyone who posts here worried bout the sme condition nd I think I can say I have managed to help them cope without frightening the further.
The system of tesing and issuing results is what frightens most people - not knowing the facts.
I too, will be seeking a forum where I can converse with other dults- those who are able o face facts and help others to do so.

This is ll so disappointing . and strange.

Well said. It surprises me when people dont realise that forums take up money to run. It may be free to post as a member but how do you think the diabetes.co.uk gets the funds to keep running.

Best wishes

what about issues like "Conflict of Interest" if keeping the forum going involves suppression of vital information?

(a general question, not a specific one)

I thought there were free forums available that anyone can start. I remember a few years back a friend of mine started one similar to this, with all the same bells and whistles, but it was totally free.

Just wanted to note that the people that contributed to the orginal Grim Reaper thread have racked up almost 20,000 posts among them (about 7% of all the posts ever made to DCUK).

It's a pretty sad state of affairs where a forum deliberately censors the opinions of some of it's most experienced and active contributors.

grazer 3104 posts
borofergie 2955 posts
patch 2768 posts
xyzzy 2526 posts
Unbeliever 1369 posts
WhitbyJet 1138 posts
dillinger 545 posts (almost all of them awesome)
librarising 476 posts (ditto)
I'm sure Defren would have posted to (3075 posts) had she not been in the cooler.

On diagnosis I was given a diet sheet and a pat on the head to assure me everything would be OK and that the NHS had my best interests covered.

In real life I have a health team who dismiss my proactive approach, who tell me that I will in time come to regret not following their instructions despite my having reduced my levels, weight and cholesterol by using a meter that they insisted would be of no use to me.

I thought that I had found somewhere that I could depend on to help me in my fight against Diabetes. Somewhere where I could read various different methods to help me, somewhere that I could feel amongst friends who understood. I accepted from day 1 that the forum area was of secondary importance to the commercial side but naively never realised that the fight against Diabetes would only be allowed to be carried out in the way it has been outlined to-day. Diabetes has a dark side and we will be doing a disservice to all our members if we are never allowed to mention the possible outcomes of failing to get control through ignorance of all the options open to us.

I too belong to other forums and have on one forum witnessed the same type of censorship we have seen to-day .... it destroyed the community and left behind a sanitised shell. Yes Moderation is a necessity, but it must be carried out in a fair, open and intelligent manner and I have seen no evidence of that happening over the last few hours.

I too shall be going elsewhere if the current illogical censorship level continues. Trolls can join the forum, start threads that are allowed to run and wind up the genuine members but those same genuine members are refused the right to help others who actually request advise unless they agree to sugar the pill.

Why is Defren in the cooler? and is it a temporary ban? and for how long, if so?

Defren is fantastic, inspirational and good all round lovely lady!!!!

She emailed me to tell me as we were mid a series of PM's swapping recipes and stuff. I'm sure actually mentioning this will be breaking some rule or other. :(

What did Defren do that was so bad that she was banned? Could it not have been resolved in a PM?

WHAT????

Are we talking abut the same Defren here?

I know this has been a bit of a nightmare day.....but this is ludicrous!!!

(sorry, not disbelieving you, but that is just surreal. Have others also been banned?)
