Dose anyone use CGM with there pump and was this funded when you got your pump. i have read about CGM and it sounds good for my life style i often worry about hypos and i sometimes dont get warning signs until the last minute, night times are the worst as i live on my own and now suffer from liver sugar dump during the night which realiy upsets SG the next day.

Hi,

I've had a loan cgm for the last 6 months due to pregnancy, however from what my dsn said my pct have authorised funding for my own cgm and I have been told I am the 2nd person under my pct who has had this funded. You wont get it automatically but due to lack of hypo awareness you could stand a chance of getting 1 as I got mine due to no hypo awareness and horrendous night time hypos (I am lucky however as I live with my hubby and he has kinda got used to the lack of sleep that comes with dealing with the nighttime hypos  )

It would probably best to speak to your diabetic team :) the cgm has changed my life, i know some people dont like wearing them all the time but it suits me, instead of the usual hypo symptoms (which i dont get) i just get a bleeping!!!

I have a cgm funded by my hospital somehow...

It is brilliant for helping me to manage my diabetes.. My worst hypo's were night-times.

It has actually helped me realise hypo awareness better... Because of the ability to flick a button when working.. Rather than having to stop work, find somewhere to wash my hands, get tester out..now when feeling a hypo warning I fluck a button or depending how I got set up of cgm it will also be warning me with bleeps.

It has also shown me just how fast my levels can drop and how long it can take for my levels to raise.

I don't know how my hospital funds it for me though.... I was just fortunate that I am allowed one funded..

The question that worries me about wearing a cgm is whether the dvla recognise it as a good tool for a driver to have-as the driver is constantl aware of their levels or a bad one and so decline license.

I have put another posting on here previously about cgm's, as I believe mine has given me my life and confidence back.. No more testing in public, complete reassurance 24/7 that my levels when they go high or low are enabling me to care for myself. It helps when eating different foods for the first time, when ill ( as I have been on regular basis over last 3 months).

Personally, I think every pump user at least should have one.. As they allow more definite timings to adjust basals..

I wish I knew how my hospital fund mine..or perhaps whether it may be a trial one given to hospital by the manufacturers ( do they do this sort of thing?)

Depending on your reasons for needing one, you may be able to get one.. Especially if your quality of life could be dramatically improved as much as mine. (i have a very physical job and equipment.. Which puts me more at risk.
