I'm due to have a continuous glucose monitor fitted in a couple of weeks - what can I expect!?

Something I didn't know until after it was fitted and I had to ask for advice on here (I only have mine for 6 days)- it won't be very accurate for the first 24 hours or so, but that's normal apparently. When you calibrate it doesn't change the numbers straight away, but it will get more and more accurate as more time passes. I hope you get on okay with it :)
Also, I thought the sensor in the inserter looked horrible but it didn't hurt at all :)

Type One Diabetes since 2001, Coeliac Disease since 2003 ish, IBS, and on and off depression and diabulimia.

Current HbA1c 11.7% :(

Thanks for your feedback! It's for 5 days just to monitor what's going on as I'm having quite a few unexplained highs and lows!

You will find it fascinating in a geeky diabetic sort of way and won't be able to stop checking the graph line to see where your glucose level has been -that's if you are using a CGM that gives you a visible read out, some CGMs have to be downloaded at a clinic to see the results.

It is an eye opener in to what goes on in between the daily blood glucose tests you presently do and is a good way to notice trends where you think there are none. It really does focus your mind on the timing of boluses, what you are eating and the full time challenge it is to keep control.

Good luck, I hope it gives you useful results and helps you get more stable control.
