Champix

I haven't but my husband has. He did it over a year ago, and it worked for him, first thing that ever has in about 40 years of smoking.

Since he isn't diabetic I am not sure of the effect it has on sugar levels. They do say it will make you irritable, and they are not wrong! All I'd say is choose your time to quit carefully - if, for example, you are selling your house and moving 400 miles then maybe consider delaying it till it's all over. :)

Good luck with giving up

Hi, I gave up smoking last year with Champix after trying everything else possible over the years. It did not bother my B/G levels but did cause some transient nausea so be sure to take with food and drink at least 1 glass of water with it and you will be fine. GOOD LUCK

I used Champix and haven't smoked for 3 and half years ! I also used a neat app called MLC ( my last cigarette ). Only advice I would give is don't have the last tablet too late as you get very vivid dreams and I had difficulty sleeping.

Hi, I am currently taking champix and gave up smoking 18 days ago  I don't think it has had an affect on my BG levels, and I'm testing a lot (diagnosed on 24th June this year) but it has made me more irritable than usual, and seems to have lowered my BP slightly!

I second the poster saying take each tablet with a glass of water (I also take mine with breakfast and tea) as it stops the nausea.

eddiemac and 1973magpie, please let us all know how you get on giving up smoking with Champix and the very best of luck, Deb

Hi diadeb,

Just to let you know that tomorrow I take my last Champix (after a 12 week course) and I am still not smoking, so 11 weeks no cigarettes :D and although I miss smoking still, I haven't had any major cravings since about week four or five!

Well done ! However, don't assume you've cracked it completely, you still need to stay strong. I've been quit nearly 4 yrs now but I still fancy one occasionally.

I gave up the ciggies about 18 months ago using Champix.

I don't know how it affected my blood glucose levels though.

I have to say it was pretty easy for me giving up using it. 30 odd years of smoking and this was the only thing that worked. I didn't feel like killing anyone once. Previous attempts have involved very anti smoking friends going buying me fags so they don't kill me ;).

I did have some pretty bizarre dreams while using it.

I still fancy a cig every now and again but the damage they did to me puts me off big time.
