Changing the time of my Lantus.

Hi everyone. I want to start changing the time of my Lantus injection? I currently take it at 730am but want to start taking it later on in the morning because getting up at that time at the weekend sucks and my boyfriend is not impressed when the alarm goes off on a Sunday morning. Can I start delaying it by half an hour every day until I have it at the time that suits me?

why can't everyone get on........
the only caveat is to be aware that lantus does not always last for 24 hours so moving the injection time may have effects on your early morning / night time / or afternoon levels
have you discussed with your DSN at all ?

the only way to be sure is to do basal testing.:)

I will be there on Tuesday so will mention it then. It suits at that time during the week but it's not great after a night out and you just want to sleep through :) haha.

I have found that taking it at a slightly different time has never really bothered me.
i normally took it at 6pm but due to circumstances have taken it at 8pm as well.( just started on a pump 3 weeks ago )
an hour or 2 difference shouldn't cause an issue -- your meter will tell you if it does :)

My DSN said to keep it within 1/2hrs and not worry about it too much, though same time daily is ideal... I'm sure you'll notice if it causes an issue in your BG levels!

Hello :)! I spoke with the nurses at the hospital and they gave me the advice to increase the time by an hour every day until I get it to my preferred time :). So come Saturday I will finally get a proper lie in :).

I would be tempted to try taking your lantus in the evening before your bed........since the profile is fairly flat you shouldn't go low........

have you tried this......

I considered it but it doesn't suit my lifestyle to take it in the evening. Have too much on

I work overnight on the week days so I'm up at night 9pm until 10 or 11 am and on the weekends it's the opposite can I still take the insulin at the same time in the morning on the weekends when I'm up early

Yes.
Lantus is an insulin designed to take once a day at approximately the same time, it works around 24 hours although the effect may taper off a little in the last few hours befor the next injection.

If you want to move it, then I don't think it would cause problems, I used to take a single dose in the evening which I would nominally take at 10pm, but quite often take at midnight or even gone 2am if I'd been out. I never noticed any particular problems with this.

I now split my basal; taking half in the morning and half in the evening (to make tuning basal doses for exercise easier), and both injections still vary by up to ~4h depending on whether I'm out early for a meeting or a long ride (~6am dose) or have a lie in at the weekend (1030am if I'm shattered and the kids let me lie in!) in the case of the morning and similar to the above for the evening. I don't notice any particular effects - any effects are lost in the usual "noise".
