Is diabetes co.uk a charity or just a website funded by donations?

If it is, do they do any events?

If not I will think diabetes.org is a charity?

Just as I'm getting fitter and better thinking of setting a big target (for me) of a 10k or a small triathlon.

I may go public with my journey and do some fundraising at the same time?

Diabetes.co.uk is a business which provides free to use forums for advice and support. The clue is in the 'co' (company) bit!

Diabetes.org is a registered charity.and may be better placed to assist you with your goals.

Please don't do anything via this site which requires members to hand over contact details.

Hi @sno0opy

As I understand it, diabetes.co.uk is a commercial business.

Diabetes UK is a registered charity, as is the excellent Public Health Collaboration, which I believe the founders of this site are involved in. Some members here are also Ambassadors for that organisation.

Good on you for the 10k!

Wasn't planning on doing anything in this site, more in support of it but only if it was a charity.

By sharing my story I more meant to people I know, I have already been as open as I can be with you lot! But apart from wife no one knows I have the condition.was looking at to do some charity fund raising for some of the support groups I have used. Will only be for a charity though so I will look at the .org.

Fyi I never realised that you didn't get a .co.uk if you were a charity lol

Diabetes.co.uk (DCUK) was founded by the current owner, shortly after his grandfather was diagnosed with T2 diabetes. Said grandson went looking on t'internet for useful information, only to be disappointed by what he discovered, so built a website, from his bedroom in his student digs, hoping to create an environment for information sharing.

In time, the parent company of DCUK was established as a limited company, under English law.

The DCUK forum has always been free to use, although the company does have commercial income streams.

Over the years there have been massive investments made, by DCUK, in improving the lives of those living with diabetes, which has led to multiple awards in both the health and business arenas.

I don't think anyone could ever have imagined how many lives could be touched by one, single man's diagnosis, but I do know I have much to be grateful for from it.

(Said granddad is very much still with us, living well and looking fab. Long may that continue.)

I arrived here and found a place full of nutters saying eat fat to get thin!!!!
I did a runner quick as I could.
Nothing was working out so came back .... knowing the place was full of nutters.
What I thought do I have to lose I'm already losing the fight .... I'll listen to the nutters .... just for a while and maybe get to ridicule them a little for being soooo stoopid.
Turned out this place was the only place that actually made sense .... the nutters may well have saved my life!
Thank you so much .... nutters!
Even my doctors had to come visit the place ... like in Victorian times when people toured the asylums ..... they were impressed and kept coming back!
Thank you everyone of you ... thank you DCUK .
