I bought the Spirit healthcare one, the TEE2. Strips are not too expensive. I am type 2, hba1c was 48 so just into diabetic. I was using meter seven times a day, first thing, first bite and two hours later. It has helped me find which foods spike my blood sugar, and helped me adjust quantities of carbs.
I think the biggest help controlling carbs was when I found out about Cauliflower mash, and Cauliflower rice.
I only test now if eating new food, or I don't feel well.
