Cheese to eat or not to eat

I'm a recent low carber and have seen conflicting advise about eating cheese on a low carb diet.
I wondered what you all thought?
I like all kinds of cheese - from feta to parmesan and cheddar with soft cream cheese in between.

Thanks

I love my cheese, I do not see a conflict with low carb diet. I am aware that too much might assist weight gain though

Most cheeses are pretty low carb.. I eat quite a lot of it. Just need to check the labelling.. just noticed that one of the feta type cheeses I had in the fridge (now all eaten) had 4.3g of carb per 100g so prob won't get that again when I can have something nicer that has 0.1g of carb like a nice mature cheddar.

Fat is your friend. However I believe excessive protein (cheese, meat etc) may end up as sugar. I don't know what excessive would be for me so I ignore that bit.

I don't think we HAVE to eat cheese on LC. Lots of vegans and people with dairy intolerances manage without it. But I love it, and enjoy it as part of my Low Carbing.

It is entirely up to you! :)

People who think they know everything.
I love cheese but I think that its one of the reasons I managed to put on weight while on an LC diet.

We eat lots of traditional cheeses, as the OP mentions, feta, parmesan, cheddar, plus stilton, emmental, mozarella, red Leeicester and some cream cheese (which I tend to use to maker mackeral pate).
We tend to steer clear of the "fancy" cheeses, the ones with fruits and pickles and chilli in them. There's often added sugar in these.
And we totally avoid the highly processed cheeses, strings and triangles and so on, but perhaps this is just a matter of taste, I've never checked them out.
Bottom line, cheese is fine, but, if it has a label, perhaps best to read it!

I eat cheese. No problem with a low carb diet. You might find with dairy that your cholesterol goes up. I believe most people on LC don't get that reaction. Unfortunately, I did.

Thanks so much to everyone.
So it's as I thought - cheese is low carb usually, but too much will cause weight gain.

Anyone disagree? :)))

I think that might cause weight gain could be more accurate. Low carb is very individual and you have to experiment to see if some things will slow weight loss - and of course there is also the added factor of raising blood glucose to consider.
I have been testing and find that everything which I know I should not eat in order to lose weight is also what I should avoid to keep BG low.
So far, when I eat low carb my BG is in non diabetic range, according to the specialist medics I saw today.

That makes sense.
My problem is I can eat loads of cheese in one go - sort of a substitute for biscuits or other sweet foods that I used to eat loads of.
This might mean too much cheese no matter how low carb is restricting my weight loss I suppose :)
