What is a good cholesterol level for Type 2 diabetics. My most recent was 4.1, (however the receptionist couldn't give me the breakdown of good and bad) . I know that my overall level is fine for non diabetics but is is it OK for diabetics.

Hi Sugarmog you only get a breakdown if you have had a fasting blood test for a lipid panel not just cholesterol which is the total of the lipids. If your blood test was fasting phone back and ask for the breakdown

4.1 sounds pretty good to me and I wouldnt be at all worried by it, but I am not a doctor :D

The target numbers are:

HDL: 1 mmol/l or above for men; 1.2mmol/l or above for women.

LDL: below 2 mmol/l

Triglycerides: equal to or below 1.7mmol/l

Total cholesterol: below 4 mmol/l

Thanks for the info. It was a fasting test, but apparently I had not fasted long enough. I thought it was 8hrs but the nurse said it should have been 12. So maybe I would have been below 4 if I had fasted longer. Is there any suggestion that high cholesterol levels in the blood can directly affect the bodies ability to metabolise glucose?

4.1 is great. Wish I could get mine there. I can only get mine to 5.6. Runs in the family though. Everyone barring none have high cholestrol on my father's side. So I should be pleased with your score. :)
