I saw my DN at the end of last month and she mentioned that my cholesterol was high ... when in fact it was down from last visit a year ago. At that visit it was 7 but this time it was 5.86.
I asked for a copy of results, and what she wrote down was ...
HDL - 1.63
LDL - 3.79
It wasn't until later that I realised she hadn't said the trigs, which she has clumped in with LDL obviously.
Is there any way of working it out from these results and is it as bad as she made it appear to be?
I do actually think I'm doing okay albeit slowly.

The formula they use to estimate LDL is
LDL cholesterol = Total cholesterol – HDL cholesterol – Total
triglyceride ÷ 2.19

rearranging for trigs T=2.19(To-L-H) = 2.19(5.86-1.63-3.79)=2.19*0.44=0.96

Your trig to HDL ratio is 0.59 which is well under the 0.87 for ideal.

Therefore all in all nothing to see here - well done and keep it up.

Your HCP was obviously on a sales pitch for statins. They have this mythical under 5 for non-D and 4 for diabetics. The conspiracy theorist in me is sure this is all about saving the government on pension costs in a few years

I think you may be right andcol because she did stress 0 to 4 is what I have to aim for!

If you had zero cholesterol you would unfortunately for you and hopefully your doctor be dead.

Enter the numbers you have in this calculation and it will tell you what your trigs are, and also tell you the ratios.
