Hello, I need help to understand how important Cholesterol is to have good blood glucose. A year
my Cholesterol was very good. I added more eggs and plain 0% fat fage yogurt to my diet.
I check my A1c every 3 months and Cholesterol once a year. Thanks to all members.

Hi @Omar51

As you’ve posted in the pre-diabetes forum I assume you have pre-diabetes. If that’s the case, I’d say that managing your blood glucose and keeping that on track is the most important thing you can do for your health.

Is there something behind your question? Are you concerned about your cholesterol? If you give a bit more context there are some members with a lot of knowledge in this area who may be able to help. In the meantime, there’s a very detailed thread on this site which gives a lot of information about cholesterol - well worth a read: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/cholesterol-and-statins.156985/

In my mind they are not opposed targets - good BG and good cholesterol. The thing to note is that good cholesterol doesn't mean LOW cholesterol.

Adding eggs and yoghurt such as Greek type to your diet along with cheese and meat may raise your HDL (good cholesterol) and therefore your total, and will not impact on BG. The aim is to remove the LDL sources of cholesterol which are normally in processed foods which are also the ones bad for your BG. A win-win!

Thanks for the reply, I will read more on that thread.

Think that’s more triglycerides (non HDL cholesterol) isn’t it within processed foods? My LDL & overall cholesterol has gone up sharply so far on the LCHF diet, so I’ve reduced intake of fattier meats & things like cream & other dairy. It is though both early days in my dietary change & I maybe within a small subset of individuals known as lean mass hyper responders, who tend to see extreme lipid reactions to LCHF (HDL up, LDL up, Trigs down), overall cholesterol up.

We’re all different and what works for one may not produce the same outcome as another.

So the only way to find out the answer is to test & measure your diet on a reasonably regular basis, then adjust or stick with it as you see fit based on the results.

I wouldn't avoid meat, cream etc personally. I like to try as much as possible to eat stuff that doesn't need an ingredient list.

So foods that are fats are ok in my book, it's all the processed stuff that hide the bad stuff.

There's strong evidence that the misdirected advice to switch from fried breakfast to cereal in the 1970s is to blame for the current situation. I'm slightly over simplifying it but that's the basis behind LCHF diet. Hopefully someone can add a link to the video that shows the timeline of the Time magazine article about fat and cholesterol and the obesity epidemic across the US. A compelling read.

Try and get a full lipid panel and water fast for 12-14 hours before the blood is taken to get a "clean" result.

I will get full lipid panel, water and fast and post the results as soon as I will get. Thanks a lot for your help.

I test my diet and keep records on regular basis, I think I am on low carb and low fat. My numbers don't look bad, especially w/o talking any medicine. Thanks for the reply and good advice.

Not sure how to figure out macros, I know I take very little carbs, now I am not sure if I am taking low fat. I can tell you my fat intake. I use little extra virgin olive oil (first cold pressed) lean chicken breast only(no red meat) once a week cold water fish, 100 % dark chocolates and that's about it, may be you can tell me if I am taking low fat, thanks for your help. Omar

It looks quite low fat, but if that's enough food for you, and you're not too hungry, then it should be good. If you need more to eat, you could probably up your fats or eat some red meat, but if this is working, there's no real need to do so. My cardiologist advises me to avoid carbohydrate, and stick to lean meat and vegetables.

I think all that chicken breast would bore me a bit though.. I prefer a nice steak.

Hi Barry & everyone,
I’ve just logged on for the first time to research for my wife who has the Type 2 for over 10 years now and whose doctor is concerned about her recent HBA1C results. It’s the science that counts and feel that you would get something out of the reviewing the link and all the additional content that you can watch. We’re all paying the price for simply all the misleading information we’ve literally been fed for generations. Anyway, it’s not for me to tell the story I’ll leave it for the Doctors and Professors to explain and for you to make of it what you will. Good luck.
