Those results are first class. Why in this world did your GP suggest statins? Oh ..... I know. Because they offer statins to all diabetics no matter how good their cholesterol is. Offer being the operative word. Well done on achieving those numbers,.

I think the statins were suggested because my total cholesterol is 5.1 and should be 5 or under!

Your doctor is obviously ignorant of the fact that your lipid panel showed a snapshot of your cholesterol at that precise moment in time.. it goes up and down like blood sugar throughout the day depending on all sorts of things..including the sort of things you ate in the days prior to the test. It's far more dynamic than most GP's appreciate so to prescribe medication on the back of a snapshot reading is in my view kind of crazy.

Rubbish! Even NICE don't recommend doctors looking at total cholesterol any more. They look at the components - HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, and the ratios. Your doctor is way out of date, and possibly ticking boxes somewhere instead of doing a bit of research. .... 5.1????? 0.1 above the standard? Ridiculous.

Just for your benefit
HDL is all good cholesterol and yours is brilliant
Triglycerides are the baddies and yours are brilliant

Thanks for that, the ratios all come out as ideal. No statins for me
