hi was wondering what you do on xmas day /partys etc do u indulge or hold back and self control, I havnt personally told anyone about my t2 as im getting used to it myself , so to avoid everything will raise questions but im teetotal anyway so lucky that way

Hi
It is really hard is,nt it....
I am going to have a mince pie though, and have a go at making the trifle that whitbyjet put on here, under festive thread I think....
I don't drink either, but a sugar free fizz drink for me...
Just made some popcorn, with some xylitol for sweetness it looks very festive, never made it before...
It's a little of most things in moderation I guess, but I am going to try and make most things, it's just a day really...
But hard seeing it all in the shops...
Cheese and herb sconces are on my list for my Christmas morning nibble....always have a nibble on Christmas morning and a bit of 70% chocolate....x

I have been t2 for one year and have not told anyone either just my oh, like to keep it private for now, still getting used to it.....x

Hi, I guess it all depends on what you will be avoiding. Im a very low carber and had a works meal last, as ive only just managed to kick start my weightloss again, I left my roast spuds, and all the bread and crackers. I had several weeks before when I ordered pickdc the cheese plate instead of dessert, I just left the grapes and crackers. My work all know why I left them. But if you dont want people to know, just say your on a diet. If they ask and if your avoiding carbs, then just say your doing atkins.

Hi Lenny,
Yes it good to say, on a diet of some sort, it seems to work, and no further questions....so far.
December tomorrow, happy festive greetings
Kat x medium carbs, smaller portions....

yes ur right its just one day .. and kat would love ur recipes for the scones sounds lovley !! and I will do same eat the cheese an ham leave the crackers lol thanku x

Hi cath99

Will look up recepie it's in my book, but just a plain sconce mixture, grated cheese, dried herbs and a little mustard..
Use small cutter to make little nibble sconces....
They freeze really well....Kat ....
Ps you have to pull your crackers :) x

Cheese muffins - these are delicious, nobody will guess they are low carb, they freeze well so can be made ahead of the big day; eat on their own or with soups, stews, etc
Ingredients
4 large eggs
2 tbsp greek yogurt
2 tbsp coconut flour
2 tbsp almond flour
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup of grated strong cheddar cheese
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Optional: Chopped chives, or any other hetbs fresh or dried, spring onions, chopped and cooked bacon, onion, diced peppers, mushroom, any of those, whatever you fancy.
For a extra strong cheese flavour add a tbsp freshly grated parmesan.

Preheat oven to 180C
Mix together the eggs, yogurt, and a pnch of salt and whisk it all until blended.
Add the coconut flour, almond flour and baking powder and mix until the batter is smoot, make sure there are no lumps.
Add the cheese, rest of your ingredients and some freshly ground pepper and mix well.
Bake in greased muffin trays or silicon muffin tray for approx 20 minutes until firm to the touch and golden brown

For trifle, make an almond or coconut sponge as base, a laer of fruit, pour over sugarfree jelly, leave to set, make up your own, real custard (egg yolks, sweetener, cream, vanilla extract), top with whipped cream, decorate with silver balls, you dont have to eat them, although they are so tiny, they wouldnt affect your bg levels.

I'm only a month out from diagnosis, so probably no one is interested in my uninformed opinion, but I'm sort of thinking that Christmas for me will be a day off from my diet. It's just one day, after all, and Christmas without stuffing and baked potatoes just isn't Christmas to me. So I'll up my insulin by a unit or two and be very, very good diet wise on the days either side.

Although there must be some kind of low carb stuffing out there... Now there's a thought.

I'm taking Christmas day and boxing day off. I'm not going to overdo it, but I'm not low-carbing my christmas dinner, and neither am I going to forgo a mince pie! I don't drink ordinarily, so I'm getting a bottle of merlot in, in the hope that it may counteract the effect of whatever I consume.
It's one day in the year, and I intend to enjoy it!

Unfortunately, I won't be having either Christmas pud or mince pies this year as the only ones we can get over here contain palm oil to replace the traditional suet :(

Well,
for Christmas I just try to stick to low carb recipes/ alternatives where possible and cut back on higher carb items where I can't.
Result for last two years : BGs never out of the 5's at T+1hr  I can live with that 8)

Google low carb stuffing recipes, there are loads out there, my family like the sage and onion stuffing best of all, I make it with oatbran.

Of course you can have a day off at Christmas or whenever you want, I am not preaching, I only posted low carb recipes for those that want to stay low or lower carb, kind of save carbs where they can.
Of course if someone is on insulin it would make it easier to control those dreaded spikes, its really difficulg for someone diet/exercise controlled type 2; I remember a Christmas before I started lchf, I thought I wasnt overdoing it, ate only a small portion of Christmas dinner, no cake or trifle, but my bg spiked up to double figures, and it took a few days to return to below 10.
Bad old days indeed.

Have a good Christmas x

Blue green, enjoy your day, and thanks whitbyjet, your recepies sound lovely.....where do I get your cookery book.....k x

I plan to not overdo it like I used to but I will have a wee bit of the things I normally avoid. I am lucky in that I can have small amounts of potatoes, stuffing and the like without spiking. My problems start when I overindulge! I drink hardly at all normally but a glass of red wine won't come amiss. It is only one day and I plan to enjoy it! 8)

Yes it is only one day and a little indugence can do no harm if you don't overdo it

I will have my favorite breakfast on christmas day which is scrambled eggs with smoked salmon
Dinner will be at my daughters the traditional turkey with all the trimmings I will have the meat with the veg and one roastie
Christmas pud, mince pies and trifles are no temptation for me so while the family tuck into those my desert will be berries with low fat creme fraiche.and my extra treat will be almonds and strawberies dipped in strong dark chocolate the over 70% cocoa type

my christmas day will be normal brekkie, yogurt and berries (why on earth would i not have that :) ) then round the inlaws for christmas dinner, ill make some cauliflower mash and take it instead of eating the spuds, im also going to attempt some low carb stuffing to take and will be baking something nice for afters :) so if i over indulge itll be too much low carb stuff hehe, i dont drink so thats easy, in fact saying no to everyone has got easier since dx now im not allowed it rather than just being a weirdo for not drinking, i had suggested to the missus about going running in the morning but she didnt look too keen lol
