Christmas

@edan it is very easy to misunderstand when on the forum as I have just realised with your last comment you have clearly misinterpreted my original post. It is common sense if you are on insulin to check, the meaning behind my original comment was meaning not to keep frantically checking all day.

Yeah it seems so. To me banish meter means meter is not allowed whatsoever. Text can be hard to interpret in the way intended

@ewelina I tried making the pavlova using Erythritol and it didnt work out, flat as a pancake. As soon as I added the eryritol to the meringue mixture it just turned back to liquid. When you tried Xylitol how did it turn out.?

I think the answer is just eat what you feel you want to we all know our own bodies best and if we can relax and enjoy the Christmas food just for one day.

That's a shame. With Xylitol it was like a soft sponge with no crust. I would use it as a topping of a cake but definitely not as pavlova. Xyltiol or Erythritol doesn't caramelise and I think that's a reason why it doesn't work for meringue. I think that's a cake that I will never be able to make in low carb version:(

The erythritol had the crust like a normal pavlova but that was about it. Never mind I only eat it once a year so oh well. If you ever manage to pull it off make sure to put it on your blog.

I'm really pleased to see that most of you are allowing yourselves a day off. I was only diagnosed last week but already thinking about Christmas Day. The main reason being that we will be eating with my mum who is 86 and has always worried that I will become diabetic because my dad was and because I'm overweight. I don't want her to know because she won't stop worrying and there's no reason that she should know because even if we eat with her on other days I can say that I'm on a diet but she knows that there is no way I would diet on Christmas Day. So I think I shall do like the rest of you and forget about the diabetes for a day, without going stupid. I hate Christmas Pud anyway and we don't have yorkshires and this year we have already decided on beef so won't be having stuffing either.

I did not even have a Hot Cross Bun or chocolate at Easter, so I figure Christmas owes me some Pudding this year, with brandy butter, not fond of potatoes, may have some stuffing in a turkey sandwich on Boxing Day so except for Pudding I shall run reasonably low carb on the big day. Bur I wont stress, will just enjoy the day!

Hi @Jagman In our family we have a tradition of eating steaks on Christmas day so that's perfect for us diabetics I eat lots of the sausages rolled in bacon too, the veg and 1 roast potato. For pud I make a trifle for everyone with a sugar-free jelly for me I have that with strawberries and clotted cream. No mince pies or cake but I have been known to snaffle a few Quality Street over the festive period. Hope you have a lovely, peaceful Christmas

We started to have it when our boys were teenagers as we couldn't afford to feed them on steak any other day - they ate so much!!!! It's become a tradition now, we have Turkey on Boxing Day
