I have been reading about chromium for controling BS,has anyone tried it/or had any benefit from it???
Hi Sukaren, just been reading about this, on the Diabetes UK Site , i was interested, as, i was taking it for about the last 2yrs, haveing been told over last 4years that i was on boderline , i took it because i thought it would help with my glucose levels, i thought it was helping, and maybe it did, but as i have now been dx with T 2 diabetes, i do wonder , i did tell the nurse, that i was taking it, she knew nothing about it,

Copied this from the site (So should diabetic people take chromium?
To assess whether to take chromium, patients should discuss their individual situation carefully with a healthcare expert. Until the various different forms of chromium are subjected to extensive research, there is no certain way of knowing whether chromium is a suitable treatment for diabetes. )

The standard Multivit-mineral supplement (eg ABC plus) includes this warning:
Diabetics:
Use only under a Dr's supervision because this product contains chromium which may enhance insulin sensitivity and may affect your blood glucose levels.

As you can only observe any effect by experiment & testing, the warning seems superfluous. I've been taking that supplement for years, so I have no idea if its any good

I think all supplements are likely to be marginal at best, & reducing carb consumption the most effective & measurable non-medical control system.

Every type of supplement (except Bilberry) I take seems to have anti diabetic warnings lol! I take ABC Plus from H & B too and not had problems. Whether it does anything is questionable cos when I dont take it things arent really any different.

I also take Whey Protein for training and just last week read that may actually help diabetic control and weight management lol. Whether it does or not I dunno but made me smile as for once i'm doing something right!!

I also take creatine for training and that says not suitable for diabetics too! Although it does help with brain power, not sure about muscles tho loL!

Anyone know if stuff called insulin is suitable for us folk with diabetes?! :P
