just wondering whether anyone had any suggestions for snacks to take with me to the cinema? last time I went I took a small tub of little strawberries (whilst my friends were all scoffing Ben & Gerry's  )
just looking for another suitable alternative? I think that pickled onions and gherkins may not be the delectable whiff that other patrons are expecting :problem: LOL

Hi moonfruit,

well done on the strawberries, thats a good idea.

From a savoury point of view how about some cheese cubes, slices of ham, chopped cucumber.

Nuts,

Port scratchings

pepperami

I think you could get away with popcorn too - 6g carb per cup, I think they are. So if you grab a small one and share with hubby, that might work.

Diet soda, of course. Mints, maybe. Chopped, roasted almonds with a bit of Stevia added makes a good candy and has like 3g carb per 100g.

I can normally steal 1 bite/spoonful icecream from a mate without incident - I really have a thing for icecream, lol. No more than that, though.

Our cinema won't let you take any of your own food or drinks in!

BET if you said you were diabetic and needed special food regularly (wouldn't have to explain that) they'd run a mile.
Alternatively buy their packets of nuts.

Same here so that you buy their over-priced rubbish from the kiosk

Nuts,

All of these have accompanied me to teh cinema in the past.

Popcorn is another one of those foods that is like a drug - once I start, I can't stop...

Oh I don't know Patch.......I can't stand the stuff and find it extremely sickly :(

God - I could eat a bucket of the stuff. Half salt, half sweet.

Yummy.

I took pork scratchings the last time I went and my son complained that chewing them made too much noise and he couldn't hear the dialogue! Has anyone (apart from me!) seen how long it takes to suck a pork scratching - they lasted the whole film. :D

I know what you mean!! they don't half make a noise don't they? :D I used to love salty buttered popcorn so the pork scratchings give me my salty, smoky fix instead.

I dont think they can stop you taking your own food in if you are diabetic.

I was stopped going into a show on Broadway in New York with a bottle of water and some sweets, but after i explained i was diabetic they were absolutely fine, and said well we cant take it off you then!

Pork Scratchings, babybels, walnuts and almonds would be a winner for me! or a few low carb biscuits that i'd made earlier.

You lot can afford popcorn in the cinema?????? Last time I went with son, his girl, and hubby I bought 1 popcorn, 2 cokes and nachos and it came to £15 odd and I didn't get to eat any of it. Come to think of it I paid for tickets as well - must have MUG tattoo'ed across my forehead. I usually smuggle in a bottle of water and a packet of walnuts. The seem to think that if you're of a "certain age" you wouldn't dream of flouting their rules. Anyway if they can find anything in my bag........ :D

My daughter has to keep to a very restricted diet so obviously the usual cinema fodder is out of the question. When I explained at the ticket desk that she has a medical condition which means she has to keep to certain foods, I was told it was fine to bring her own.

Apparently they only drew the line at hot foods, everything else would be allowed in. This was an Odeon Cinema in South London.

Maybe harass yours and drop the word discrimination into the conversation?
