hi
can anyone advise what benefits you get from taking cinnamon and what amount to take and what times of day i know you can buy this in tablet form from holland and barrett
Enjoy with stewed apple & added to casseroles. I doubt if you will notice any difference to your BS. I'ved used it for years. I have run out of it, but not noticed any difference - except to the taste
Have a look at the recent Supplements thread - there is a link there that might be of interest. In short some people claim to find that it helps a bit - and there is both theory and clinical evidence to back that up. It is pretty marginal, though, it won't make a big difference. If you like the taste then use it!
Hi Donnamum,
There's actually two types of cinnamon. The type of cinnamon you get in sticks (Cinnamomum burmanii or Indonesian cinnamon) has no benefit to a diabetic. It is the powdered sort which is actually cassia (not cinnamon) and is also known as Chinese cinnamon, that has the anti-diabetes properties.
Google "New Scientist" and put cinnamon in the search box.You will then be able to read about the research done by Dr Richard Anderson using cinnamon to help with type 2.I have used it since reading his work.If you send him a nice e-mail,as I did,he will send you links to further studies he has done.
Almost all the powdered cinnamon you get in supermarkets is cassia. Powdered "true" cinnamon is very expensive which is why supermarkets sell the cheaper stuff (fortunately for us!).
