Hi,
I am sure there must be good coffee and bad coffee "without sugar" which may affect our BG.

Can anyone recommend what they know to be good coffee and why it suits them.

I did have a high BG this weekend and could not pin down the cause.( the only different change I had, was make of coffee )

I also was stuck with several traffic jams on the M25,that was stressful which did not help.

Thanks

Roy.

Never noticed any brand of coffee effecting my bg (type 1) but some people do say it can push their bg up slightly. Around 2 years ago I switched to Decaff coffee and now drink Nescafe or Carte D'Or.

I'm T2 and found that the caffeine in both Tea and Coffee raised my BG levels. Swapped over to caffeine free versions and no more problems. i settled on Kenco as the best tasting coffee option for me but I think you have to try a few to see which tastes best to you.

Looks like I should change to caffeine free coffee.

I shall try a few.

Thanks

Roy.
“Life is too short for bad coffee.”

I drink Americano and Lungo full caffeine, black with sweetener. The only effects are lowering and/or maintain my BG levels.

Cant say Ive ever noticed a difference in bg levels after drinking tea or coffee and I tend to drink quite a lot of very strong coffee as well, nor have I seen a difference on those rare days when I dont drink coffee for what ever reason but Dougs link shows quite clearly that it can affect insulin action but doesnt say to what degree other than "a detectable amount" so perhaps like many other things it may just be down to the individual.

That said, if you are just talking about a one off occurrence Roy, I would suspect the stress you mention to be the primary suspect.

I am not the stressful type, however 4 hours on the M25 and desperate for a "jimmy riddle" did put me to the test of which I failed, thank goodness for hard shoulders.
To think I tell everyone not to drive any distance on Bank Holidays.

My dear wife just had to wait until a service station turned up.

I shall still try Decaf coffee, as I drink more coffee than water!

Roy.

For fast-acting relief, try slowing down on the M25 :eh:

Roy, caffeine affects the kidneys by acting as a diuretic which increases urine production, I stopped drinking caffeine drinks for this reason as I was suffering from an irritable/overactive bladder, it....along with cutting out some acidic foods has made a big difference to my life.

Some people can drink copious amounts of coffee with no affect on their blood sugars. Others have to limit their intake and some drink the decaff varieties.
If I drink normal coffee then my blood sugar rises but decaff does not affect it.

A quick google, coffee affects blood sugars will bring up pages of advice as will coffee does not affect blood sugars. It's another reason that an individual response to coffee may alter blood sugars.

The problem is finding a decaff coffee that you enjoy the taste of. I find that Carte Noire suits me.

For ladies in really desperate circumstances :

Pull on to hard shoulder; open nearside front and rear doors; squat between them!

Can't do it now - can't squat any more!

PS Alta Rica - with caffeine.

What a good idea - I never thought of that. Unfortunately I drive a Smart so only 2 doors.....

Hi Daisy!

Hmmm! Only 2 doors . . . you can get "aids" to help ladies pee in a bottle, but I'd never risk it in the car!

Sorry - who derailed this thread?

I bought one but it's made for standing up I think. Impossible inside a car I would imagine. I never worked out how to use it
Yes, sorry for being off track, especially apologies to the men 8)
Back to the topic.....

I purchased Carte Noire Decaff 100% arabica today. I must admit it was really good,

I am now converted. Also looking forward to trying other blends.

Good point Noblehead, I believe I must have a overactive bladder from previous experiences.

Sometimes little things add up.

Wife and daughter like the open 2door idea.

Thanks,

Roy.

I used to drink coffee 'till it was coming out of my ears, until I discovered Green chai made by Yogi tea. I now drink that by the bucket load. You can get it discounted at Amazon if you have a subscription which suits me perfectly. I do still drink some coffee but have changed to only filter coffee and I buy Sainsbury's organic beans and they are just fab, I use a certain amount of scoops per jug whizz them in the coffee grinder and I know there are no additives, the coffee is really nice and it doesn't touch my BG. I think as with everything else you need to fiddle around and see what's right for you.

Hi,

" Green chai made by Yogi tea "

That does sound good, I shall give it a go.

I love the stuff Roy. One little tip, I was taking a Vit C supplement and wanted to stop taking it, so after dropping a slice of lemon into the tea one day and loving it, I now buy bottles or fresh lemons and add juice to each cup I have. No more Vit C supplement and it makes the tea even nicer, and I loved it before.
