Coke Zero

Whilst it’s zero carb it can have an affect on BG, many report this, it’s thought that the sweet taste can trigger an insulin response in some people because the body thinks it’s getting something sweet so the pancreas throws out insulin which then triggers the liver to throw out glucose when it realises no food is coming, throw insulin resistance into the mix and its a perfect storm pushing your BG up.

Having said that some report no effects at all so the best advice is to test and see if it affects you, if the numbers are acceptable for you then it may be ok. But on another note lots of sweeteners aren’t good for anyone regardless of diabetes or not so I wouldn’t recommend “limitless” amounts for anyone. I do have a small glass of IrnBru Extra a day but just with my main meal, the rest of the time I drink water, black tea & coffee, fruit teas and electrolyte tabs once a day

Like loving life says it may not affect your bg but there has been quite a lot in the papers recently about the nasty side effects artificial sweeteners may have on our bodies like most things we'll only realise this in a couple of decades time so I would recommend caution at the moment .

I wonder if that's partly also a caffeine (upping stress hormones) reaction?
Given that many people report a BG rise after a carb-free caffeine drink, something must be going on. My speculation is simply that the caffeiene stimulates adrenalin (etc), and the adrenalin triggers the liver into creating/dumping some glucose.

I could accept that the anticipation of food (etc) might trigger enzyme responses as well as things like salivation etc: but I don't see how glucose that doesn't firstly exist as carbohydrate in the food could somehow arrive in the bloodstream via digestion.

I got migraines from Coke Zero. I didn’t realize it for a long time. I learned that I can’t have any sugar replacements. Either I get headaches - from aspartame and other artificial sugars - and digestive issues with Monkfruit and other natural substances that are highly concentrated in foods.
