- Customer helplines that use recorded menus that promise to put me through to the right person but never do - and being ill. Oh, and did I mention customer helplines :)
Just returned from a meeting with my diabetes nurse and she has told me to stop my insulin <GULP>
I am quite pleased as I have been reducing it for some time down from 48 units a day at diagnosis to just 5 or 6 units a day for the last couple of weeks. But I am a little nervous too as I have enjoyed pretty good bg levels up till now partly helped by the insulin I have been taking.
Last year I was weaned off prednisolone, the steroid which caused my diabetes, it took 5 months and I stopped the steroid in November. The expected reduction in insulin did not happen as the steroid was reduced but since being off it my insulin requirements have dropped steadily.
The nurse said that the 5 or 6 units a day I am currently using will not make much difference but has said to keep monitoring my numbers for a week or two and to phone her if my levels raise significantly, although she never said quite what she meant by that statement so I am a little apprehensive.
She mentioned I might like to try a drug called Sitagliptin 100m daily a DPP-IV inhibitor which she has told me to research and tell her if I want to try it, which I shall do over the next day or two as I watch my bg levels carefully. If anyone has any info on Sitagliptin please advise, I will search the forum as I am sure it will have been covered before.
Sorry for such a rambling post, I just wanted to tell someone my news and hopefully get some feedback on Sitagliptin.
