Hello, I'm Scott. I have been living with a partner with diabetes for almost a decade now, and learning to manage it together has been a struggle that we both face together. She is very organized, which clearly helps, but together we motivate each other to eat well, exercise, and stay focused on the future we plan to share with one another.

I am interested to find out more about diabetes, and its related treatments or lifestyles, and I am glad to know there are places like this where people can share their experience with each other, and find real help.

Welcome to the forums. Can I ask what type of diabetes your partner has? Most/many of the T2s on here control their blood sugars via a low carb diet, but obviously if your partner is T1 she will be on insulin.

She is somewhere between a type 1 and type 2, and only got diabetes after a hospital visit gave her an infection on her pancreas. She is insulin dependent, basal and bolus insulin, and we both eat a low carb diet; essentially keto.

Maybe T3C? T3c occurs when the diabetes is caused by pancreas damage. There is a separate forum for it, though many of them end up posting on the T1 forum. (And anyone can post on any forum, you don't have to have the type of diabetes of that foum).

Plenty of diabetics (of all kinds) eat keto here, so you should find plenty of like minds.

Thanks, I've wondered if she is type 3C, but when we have ever asked her doctors about it they refuse to engage with the idea. Every doctor is different, and finding the right one can be a challenge. I'm guessing its probably the same for everyone.

More background would be useful. Is she antibody positive? If she is, it is T1. Did she have high blood glucose before going to the hospital? Did she go to the hospital with pancreatitus?

Hello and welcome,

I always like it when partners join and have made the effort to educate themselves- that support is so wonderful for the person with diabetes. Going keto is so supportive.

Welcome.
