Hello ,

My weight is 20 and a half stone and weight is not shifting.

I don't look fat but bloated with a severely large bloated stomach that never shifts .

I eat a small breakfast of cereal , soup for lunch and apple and a small dinner average bolus of 40 40 and 40/80 units of insulin.

I swim and try and walk but my joints are really sore and painful and ankles really swollen.

What can I do to shift the weight considering my circumstances as don't want something that won't suit or be relevant.

I am so tired

Hi. Have you added-up the carb content of your daily meals? Is your cereal a low carb variety or a sugar-laden branded cereal? Is the soup a high-carb sugar-laden type? It may be your diet is good and low carb but the supermarkets are so full of junk food it is easy to keep the weight on.

Just a thought, it's possible your difficulty of shifting the weight, swollen ankles and stomach could be due to fluid retention.
I think it's best to see your GP to rule out health issues as the cause of your symptoms.

I hope you feel better soon.

I have spoken with her about this however all I hear is it is all down to diabetes . What is best for fluid retention ?

Filtered Water!
Sounds crazy,,but it is the safest most natural way:)

Drink more water, sounds daft but it works. Also reduce your carbs more. Start counting them using fitnesspal or myfatsecret.

Lots of vegetables cucumber, courgettes, celery, radish, lettuce etc all have diuretic properties and plenty of water.

Thanks problem is I struggle with vegetables don't like the taste what is the best way?

Hi Megan, I have same problem with swollen ankles, I always drink filtered water as someone already suggested, I'm not sure it helps as my feet and ankles still swell up quite badly. ( have been drinking filtered water, cook with it too for 5 years now) although drinking plenty of water is always good for you.
I have found though that wearing socks seems to keep the swelling at bay. I noticed my feet would swell badly during the night. One very cold night, couldn't get my feet warm I left my socks on. following morning my feet were smaller than they have been for a long time. now I keep my socks on.( obviously clean ones everyday lol) no swelling for a couple of months now. Have tried occassional night without socks and next morning feet and ankles are badly swollen.
My gp put it down to my weight, now he puts it down to diabetes.

Hope this helps some
