I’m 16 years old and normal bmi. About two years ago I fainted and went to a&e. They done tests and took my blood sugar levels and was 5.6 mmol. They didn’t think anything of it and said it was due to the heat(it was summer). I got an appointment with my doctor who tested me for thyroid, diabetes and something else I can’t remember. All tests came back normal so nothing else was done about it. Current day I’m underway being diagnosed with coeliac disease but not confirmed as of yet. Diabetes has always been on the back of my mind so I was wondering what I should do. Since I was tested my doctor had retired and the medical centre was closed down so I’m with a completely new centre. I am scared in case I go to the doctors and I’m diagnosed with diabetes and I know if i am diabetic and it’s left untreated that there will be complications. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What makes you think you may be diabetic?
I have experienced a few symptoms around the time of fainting but once everything came back normal it wasn’t as worrying. I still experience some like fatigue or numbness the back of my legs. It’s complicated because everyday is different

When you attend your new clinic for coeliac, mention your concerns. I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Thank you for your advice. Hopefully you are right. I’m waiting results for tests for coeliac. There’s a festival on in a nearby village and they’ve organised a free health check van that I might get done in the meantime while waiting

Hi,
Fainting is common and often due to dehydration. 5.6 mmols BM is fine.
The symptoms of diabetes are lethargy, urinating loads and a thirst. Please see your dr is your worried.
Take care

Yeah I done research on blood glucose level and seen it was in a normal range. My only concern is going to the doctor to find out it’s changed since it was taken 2 years ago

I don't think you're alone worrying incase you have diabetes. Especially if in your family. I'm sure my family get checked more because of me being diabetic, me alone thou.
I'd say enjoy your life. I know even coliac disease symptoms can be a big nuisance and you'd be advised to change your diet if you do have it.
I'd advise you do one thing at a time. See how you get on with possible coliac tests first.
We are always here if you do eventually get diagnosed diabetic. If you want to invest in a glucose testing meter to do your own investigations then it may put your mind at rest. However even none diabetics get spiked numbers after eating.
Your best avenue is Dr's blood tests which tell a 3mth story rather than a one snatched reading off a meter.
We cannot give medical advise here, only your Dr can do that.
I know we are at the mercy of blood test results in the UK. And have to fit into their measurements of deficiency etc.
Keep an open mind but don't get panicky about it. Just insist on yearly blood tests, if possible.

Hi and welcome @Unknown2018

As your tests indicate everything is fine then take comfort that you are ok, unfortunately it sounds like this episode has triggered health anxiety which can be quite consuming mentally it means you are over analysing every aspect of your health and worrying unnecessarily - I would find a new Doctor and speak to them about your concerns as they may be able to offer you some counselling to help manage this.

Thank you everyone, as silly as it sounds you’ve helped put me at ease abit. I think telling someone my thoughts even over the internet can help. I think I should express my concerns to my new doctor because like you’ve all said that’s the only way to be truly at rest. @Juicyj i think you’re right, ever since it’s happened I have resorted to thinking the worst and looking up my symptoms rather than go to a doctor which just makes me spectulate what’s wrong rather than finding the true cause
