Have people experimented with these?

I read somewhere that the hotter ones are better for the bg levels.
What do you guys have or avoid?
I had a sandwich a few weeks ago with lots of branston pickle and cheese in it and my reading went from about 6 to 12.4 after 1 hour!! i thought it was the hovis wholemeal bread but i think it was probbly the pickle looking at the content of Branston pickle - also do you think a hovis wholemeal loaf could vary alot from say a morrison wholemeal bread or bap for raising bg??? i bet all wholemeal breads are not the same are they.
 
Hi Bazza, it is worth noting that wholemeal bread is generally no better for blood glucose levels than white bread it just has a bit more fibre thats all, as already said Burgen is a bit kinder and generally better tolerated and some Whole grain breads aren't too bad, but dont be fooled into thinking wholemeal breads are OK :D

Branston pickle is very sweet so I suspect it is high in carbs but if you only have a small amount as I do it doesnt seem to make any difference, to me at least, but you would need to test yourself. As i said above it is almost certainly more to do with the bread unless you ate half a jar of Branston :D

Many of us on the forum eat Burgen Soya & Linseed which is classed as a low-gi bread, you could try this instead of the Hovis but keep in mind that it may produce similar results so the only way of knowing is by testing afterwards. Next time give the pickle a miss as these can be rather sweet.

Hi Bazza,

The carb content of Branston is 34.2g per 100 g and most of that is sugars.

Try the Burgen bread and add mustard to give the sandwich some flavour. Mustard is below half the carbs onf Branston and you wont need as much. Alternatively good old salad cream comes in much lower.
