Conflicting advice - masks

We dont seem to be getting to the flat top of the epidemic with the current actions! Let alone seeing a decrease in deaths, at this rate we will hit 20,000 in c.10 days.

Perhaps we need something else, like wearing masks to stop asymptomatics spreading it unknowingly in shops etc?

The example in Iceland's testing, 50% of the tested population had the virus asymptomatically. However they only tested 1% of their population, which appeared to be semi randomly chosen from the discussion I heard.

If more masks become available I can see them changing their rather rigid position.
