Type 1 Conflicting with my diabetes?

I am having an ultrasound tomorrow morning (10:40 am, and no I am not pregnant), to see if I have any issues with my liver or other organs. I heard you can't eat or drink for 6-8 hours before hand, but surely that's conflicting with my diabetes as I need to eat breakfast at least, and I need to stay hydrated? Is this true? It's probably not but I am very cautious of this.

I don't know about ultrasounds, but why would you need to eat breakfast? The basal/bolus regime is designed to be flexible, you're supposed to take your quick-acting insulin according to the carbs you eat, so no carbs, no bolus. On the other hand, if you're not confident adjusting your insulin to what you (don't) eat, tomorrow might not be the best day to start experimenting.
Can you call your GP or the hospital to ask them what you should do?

And for the future, have you done some course to learn to adjust your insulin to carbs and activity-level? It might make your life easier :)

Good luck, and fingers crossed everything is fine with the ultrasound!

If you are taking a long acting basal insulin, like Lantus, you should be able to skip a meal. I know it goes against everything we've been taught, but this is now seen as an appropriate way of checking if basal insulin levels are right, even by doctors.

So it should be ok. Just keep an eye on your blood sugar, and you will also know afterwards if you have the right dose of long acting, as well as how your organs are.

Hope it all goes well.

I have had ultrasound with type 1 diabetes.
I have fasted for more than 8 hours including missing breakfast with type 1 diabetes.
And had no problems.

I fast for 12 hours every 3 months before a test at the hospital - that includes a 2 hour commute to get there.

No issues although I always hope I wake up in my normal 6-8 range so it allows for a bit of a drop. They won't do the tests of <4.5

As others have said if your Basal is balanced you can go without a meal and without Bolus with no problem. The water intake is irrelevant with regard to the diabetes.
