Confused about insurance quotes

Hi

I am likely to be diagnosed as diabetic in the next couple of weeks as due my blood test etc. My HbA1c predictor is coming out between 6.1 and 6.5 at the moment if that helps. My car insurance renewal is due shortly. Having read the DVLA website, it says that it's only notifiable to them if using insulin. I would imagine that I would be put on metformin so I wouldn't need to notify them if so.

When using the quote engines, it always asks " do you have a notifiable condition" which would be "no" (assuming the above is correct). I've read on here that you have to notify the insurers anyway, so do you have to put " yes" to the notifiable section but then "no" to the haven't advised the DVLA? That makes it sound like you are trying to avoid the law.

Due to the timing, I am trying to avoid having to make an amendment to my new policy but similarly, I don't want to say I have diabetes if I don't. Or if it went the other way, I don't want to purchase a new policy and then the insurer either hike the price or get shirty and refuse cover.

I'm rambling but hope this makes sense.

I don't think that you have to notify anyone of T2 diabetes as long as you aren't on any medication which caries a hypo risk.
Don't trust me though, I'm just an anonymous Internet poster.

Type 2 on no hypo inducing medication doesn’t have to tell the DVLA, however you are supposed to tel your insurer, but it should not affect your premium. I would decide which quote you want to go with from the search, then ring the company direct and speak to a real person. When I was diagnosed type 2 and started Metformin, I told my insurer. It was put on my record but didn’t affect my premium.

Not all insurance quote engines ask about notifiable conditions.
I find questions about driving license restrictions more common.

I just had a look at my insurance question stuff.. Up for renewal soon. Had some PDF corespondence emailed.
I drive a jap import & insure with a specialist company.
Nothing on the form asking about any conditions whatsoever. Hence why I checked?

It's all the "usual" about purpose of use. Modifications' alarms & wot not.
& any convictions disclosures?
I tend to deal with my insurance over the phone..

Why do you have to insure with a specialist company for a Japanese car?

Shopping around.. If it don't happen to be a "Ford faceless." Some companies tend to hike the premium on certain imported makes. That's if they touch them at all?

Thanks. I agree that's the best approach. Just wish the timing of all this was better so I could just deal with one thing at a time.

Telling the insurance does no harm.. it shouldn't affect your premium as that would be classed as discrimination

Hypo is not the only concern.. imagine you had dka due to poor control and passed out at the wheel.... when the insurance gets your medical details and see you have undeclared diabetes they could try to wriggle out of paying.... aleast f you've told them they can't wriggle on that
