Two weeks ago i was diagnosed with prediabetes , which was a shock and took me a few days to get my head around, So Friday i had my first appointment with the nurse who was great, but the information she spoke about and what she gave me to read contradicted each other on what foods i should/should not be eating. I know i need to lose weight and exercise and have already lost 7lb since the Dr rang me but what diet is the best to follow? I joined weight watchers but the LCHF doesn't fit in with their plan as doing LCLF im just hungry.

Thanks

Hello and welcome.
I have lost weight with WW in the past but agree that it does not fit in with the way I eat now as so much low fat food is high carb. I have found it easier to go down the low carb high fat route although I don't eat a huge amount of extra fat, just cheese and butter. I have lost a couple of stones in the last two months. I would say keep the class fee and spend it on testing strips!

Hello
So many diet choices and congratulations on the weight loss , there have been some very successful stories here about WW and slimming world ..
It's about finding a diet which works for you , there may not be a single answer , personally I have adapted my diet over the years and do what suits me .. I wish you well .. Lots to read and think about on the forum .. It's your plan and diet or eating plan which is the most important .. What's best for you .. :)

LCHF is what works if you are feeling hungry you need to increase the ammount of fats and too a lesser extent proteins in your diet. Most loose loose weight LCHF and as many on the forum have found it improves cholesterol ratios.

Hi. I think you need to be very careful with some of the branded diets as they try to satisfy everyone and some follow the 'low-fat/don't worry about the carbs' approach. I think many of us would suggest keeping the carbs down is essential for both blood sugar and weight control. Having higher proteins and fats is then relevant to keep you feeling full. These are know to make you feel full for longer than carbs and don't contribute much to weight or blood sugar gain. In general NHS diet advice is best ignored based on the experience of the many posts on the forum and is not based on good science.

Welcome to the forums @LULUBLUE ,

On the positive side, being told that you're pre-daibetic is not as bad as being told that you're diabetic, so you've been given an early warning and you've got time to do something about it.

As those above have stated, it may be best to treat the standard NHS dietary advice with some caution, as many T2's on the forum follow a different path.

Have a read around the forums and ask as many questions as you like.

Good luck

Hi diet is all about what suits you personally as we are all different in what we can eat or not. Many do low carb high fat here..LCHF.. and most of us agree low carb is better but for some to much saturated animal fat does not suit them so they go more the moderate fat route with good oils like olive and coconut oil, oily fish, nuts and avocados
Lowering the starchy carbs like rice pasta bread and potatoes and cutting out all sugar stuff really helps with lowering blood glucose levels.
