I do not have diabetes
Hi All.

Can anyone tell me, can someone who is not diabetic have a Bg of 13.2 an hour after eating, bear in mind the meal was at a restaurant, I had half a calzone and a slice of tirimasu. Also Bg of 10.0 2 hours after eating some rather tasty ritz cracker things, and had some fudge about an hour after the ritz? (I only tested at this point as my mouth felt like all moisture was being sucked out of it)

Thanks in advance.

If you are prediabetic and getting readings in to the teens, you are first eating something that's spikes you very quickly, secondly, you are unaware of what some foods can do to your blood glucose levels. Those figures are diabetic not prediabetic but we cannot diagnose you. Thirdly, it does seem you are eating too much to expect your blood glucose levels to behave.

You do need to educate what you can do to get control. Have a read of the low carb forum then read the success forum.

You can control the condition and maybe then you can have the treats without getting the high numbers.

I am not diabetic, but I couldn't eat half the food you did, it would make me very ill!

Hi, thanks for coming back. I know what I should and shouldn't eat I'm just not so great at putting it into practice, I tried researching but got confused. I've not had a great experience with the diabetic nurse which is why I haven't yet been back and ask the questions here... Sorry if it sounded like I wanted to be diagnosed, that's not the case, I guess I just don't understand things fully.

What exactly is it you don't understand?
You know which foods not to eat, so it can't be that.
It would help us help you if you gave us a bit more information.

When I advised the diabetic Nurse that I had results of 12+ after eating (not immediately but 90 minutes) she just said of course you do your insulin resistant... But I didn't think that a Bg of 12+ after eating was acceptable.... So now I'm trying to figure out if I should just get on with it, or whether I need to go back, advise my morning readings are over 7 or 8 when I wake up, and that I get readings of 13 sometimes after eating. But if that's perfectly normal, and it can be experienced by a non diabetic, then there's no point in wasting their time... Does that make sense.... I don't want to waste their time and look like a hypochondriac!

Oh, my last hba1c was 47, but my fasting was just normal.

Normal. Below 42 mmol.
Prediabetic. 42 to 47 mmol.
Diabetic. 48 mmol or over.

Are you just Diet controlled? Or on any tablets for Diabetes?

I guess diet, (which i'm not doing well with) I was told to watch my portions..... I'm about 7lbs overweight.

Then it is about what you eat and portion size and exercise if you want not to be diabetic. There is tons of information on the forum especially if you look at the success stories forum.

Even at your reducing your carbs, reducing your plate size and doing a little bit more exercise. Walking after eating works to get your blood glucose down. Maybe you may go on to more vigorous exercise but that may be a little early yet.

Plan your meals, plan your shopping, avoid the foods that send you into the high numbers. It's isn't easy, but it can be done!

Thank you for coming back to me... I'm trying to work up the courage to go back. Thanks everyone for your help....

Yes it would be possible for a non diabetic to have levels like that after a carby meal but as you are prediabetic it would be better not to eat to much carby stuff
