I was diagnosed type 2 in November, i only just brought myself a meter, i have not been on medication only dieting, low carbs and no sugars and since November lost 3 stone gone from 16 stone to 14 stone, but i done my BS 2 hrs after a meal yesterday and it read 92 mg, I looked it up and it said i was just on normal because im below 100 and below 70 and 93, am I reading it right ?

If you live in America you are. It sounds like you are reading in mg/dl and that would be about 5 in old money.

i dont live in america, it was my new neter, and sorry if i sound thick but what do you mean by 5 in old money

If you're in the UK you need to set your meter to read in mmols. The readings you've given are using the U.S. measuring system.

Your doctor will be working in mmols if you're in the UK so your results will be hard to compare.

Check your meter instruction book to see how to change it to the correct units :)

If you cant get it sorted out you could ask for help at the pharmacy (druggist?) I am in Canada lol

Different parts of the world use different scales to measure blood sugar. It's a bit like Farenheit and Centigrade except in this case it's in mg/dl or in mmol/mol. You have either set your meter to the wrong scale or you have bought one that works in the wrong scale. In order to convert from one scale to the other you have to divide by 18 so your 92 reading in mg/dl would be about 5 mmol/mol.

The UK uses mmol/mol and the US uses mg/dl.

thank you both for that helpful information, you are most helpful, i sound thick

I downloaded an app that converts between the two. I bought a monitor that reads American. Should have read the small print! :-D

Like the quizes on the telly, the questions are only easy if you know the answer. Don't beat yourself up about not knowing everything about diabetes, we all have to learn and I continue to do so thanks to your question. I didn't know that the Americans used a different system.

Remember a journey starts with a single step. Keep asking questions.
