Prediabetes
I am confused. I seen my dr who took bloods. He said my blood sugar should be in the 40s and mine was 148. He said he wanted to redo the bloods and i get results 4/9/16. He didnt really say anything except possible diabetes. What does this mean and what type. Im so confused. Any advice please.

Hi @chef39 , welcome to the forums,

This information page can explain things better than I can...........
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html

But 148 is very high, so if you start feeling unwell get medical attention quickly. You will see in the link that I've given you, being in the 40's equates to blood glucose level of around 6% and in the UK we are diagnosed as diabetic with an hba1c of 6.5% and over.

If proven to be diabetic, you would need further tests to confirm the type.

Hi. I agree that 148 is very high so re-doing the test makes sense. As diabetes can be a latent, insidious disease it's possible your blood sugar may be that high but the repeat test will show it one way or another. If you do feel unwell, do seek medical help as very high blood sugar may need urgent attention. Do come back if the test shows you have diabetes as we can provide further guidance.

So will it mean i am diabetic. What happens next. I have missed time off work because i feel worse when i am in kitchen no energy sweating thirst feel dizzy. I dont feel as bad when i am not in kitchen working.

@chef39 , a couple of questions for you,
Have you experienced any uncontrollable weight loss?
Are you waking up at night to go for a pee?
I don't want to be rude, but how would you describe your general physique, slim or a little overweight?

yes iv lost loadsa weight without dieting i went from 38 waist to 34 waist. Up 3/4 times a nite to pee and basiclly feel no energy and sleeping everyafternoon for 1/2 hrs.

When my bgl are high or going up i get dizzy, i also get v thirsty like no matter how much i drink it doesnt help... when i was up even higher (in the high 20s) i was having to go to the toilet every 10-15 minutes (sometimes felt like seconds). I didnt see any weight gain/loss however there was a change in my eye sight.

I was diagnosed with hba1c of 85 and sent there by medication! Some medication has veen known to raise bgl and even cause diabetes like steriods. I hope you dont have diabetes! However if you were it is a step in a direction of getting you to feel better and that is the most important thing... people (including myself) saw diabetes as the "end of the world"... but it has really helped me, i am slimmer and feel energetic again, the hunger and thrist is gone and am not on any medication. THERE IS LIFE after diabetes and it can be soooooo much better... infact a relief!

I hope you get the answers you need, and i hope you feel better... with or without diabetes that is the most important thing.

@chef39 was it just a GP you saw? Did he test your blood sugar (rather than hba1c) with a finger prick test? Do you have any means of testing your blood sugar or ketones now?

Weight loss with high blood glucose is not a good sign @chef39. I don't want to worry you too much at this point but as I said previously, do get medical attention if you start to feel unwell.

well drink a lot it is normal to be thirsty when diabetic... I wasn´t though... the best you can do is to just eat Salads and lean meat untill you get some medicine that on top of that can help you a little bit more on taking your blood sugar Down... but you have to do the most yourself , and that takes a lot of learning ... no sugar not White bread og bread in general no corn and cornflakes ...no Coca cola or other pops ... and hardly any alkohol except for one shot of whisky and alike a day you will learn more and more along your way.. but if you want to live long and in a good Health condition it is very sensible to start right away.. if you get your blood glucose Down to normal about 5.5mmol in average you risks are alomst like other peoples those WHO doen´t have diabetes yet... Loose weight if thats an isue and start fitness, og if anything start taking long dayly walks 3 or 4 miles or more

I find out results tmoz. I only work 8 hrs a week in a kutchen but cant even manage that due to tirdness and sweating. I dont want to leave work but neef the money so its not a option
