Need some advice on what is probably an often asked question, have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes,my last blood test came back with a reading of 68, the previous one was 57 so there is an increase over a 12 month period, , I purchased a meter and this showed the first reading was 11,8 but this has gradually reduced and varies between 6.9 ang 5.8. I have started on a course of Metformin
My problem is how to distinguish between the gp result of 58 and the meter readings, which seem to use a totally different method, i realise it maybe down to my ignorance but there must be a logical explanation somewhere ,why does the meter show the results as a figure with a decimal point, and measures far lower than the gps results , so it’s difficult to,be able to,know whether my efforts are working?apologies in advance if this post doesn’t make sense

The GP reading will be an HbA1c which is in mmol/mol vs your blood glucose reading in mmol/l.
You can get a rough estimate using the converter here.

Ed: the HbAc1 give an indication of the average blood glucose concentration over about the last 3 months. The meter you are using give an indication of your current blood glucose concentration which will vary with time of day, what you eat (especially carbohydrates), how much exercise you do, stress, illness etc

It also depends on when you test.
T2s should concentrate on pre meal reading and two hours after first bite.

Hopefully someone on here will point you to the right conversion chart

I use this one, I think it’s accurate

Your Hba1c does have some relationship with your blood glucose level, but they are not measuring the same thing.
