I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes in about 2014 as a result of being on steroids long term and 5 months later started taking insulin. I started testing my blood sugars before I started taking insulin. In October 2019 I stopped taking steroids and when I saw the DN in November for my annual review my HbA1c had dropped to 22 and I was taken off all diabetes medication straightaway.
Fast forward to Feb this year and I was put on Pregabalin for diabetic neuropathy and it was suggested at the same time that I go back on metformin and I could decide for myself how many I should take between 2and 4 per day. At no point had I been told to stop BG testing and in fact I had continued to get lancets and strips by prescription. However 3weeks ago I was told by the practice nurse that because I no longer take insulin, BG levels are irrelevant and I was therefore no longer allowed to have blood testing done except HbA1c twice per year. Is that right?
