Only been diagnosed with T2 for just over a week and to say im confused is an understatement, the info i got from the nurse more or less said reduce your sugar intake, avoid sweets ,chocolate and jams and to eat high fibre foods and fresh fruit regulary, on reading some of the advice on here people are more or less saying ignore what the nhs nurse has said and cut down on your carbs to lower your blood sugar, who is giving the correct advice,i would have thought the nhs, am i mssing something somewhere, if it is the carb approach any info on what i should be eating and what i shouldnt, dont want to be losing any more weight. cheers

Yes believe it or not, carbs, and sugars are the reason you have high blood glucose levels.

@daisy will be along g shortly to give you loads of Information. Have a read around, especially the success stories by reducing your carbs.

Welcome.

I'd eat bacon and eggs with fried tomato and mushrooms for breakfast [it's low carb]
a tuna/sardine/salmon, cheese salad with olive oil and vinegar for lunch.
meat and 3 nonstarch veg for tea with a knob of real butter [ no potato or corn etc]

if you have lost weight without trying, I would ask my Dr if it's a good idea to test for pancreas function, c-peptide and GAD

Hi @tinka21 , welcome. Basically the NHS have little idea about diets for diabetics. We do what works. Have a read of the first item in my sig below and ask any questions.

Hi. Your nurse was right to say to reduce sugar and to have high fibre foods, but to that has to be added reduce all carbs not just sugar and try to get fibre from veg where you can rather than too much fruit

Hello again @tinka21

I have already given you this basic information on your other thread, but if you want to look at it again the link is in my signature. I agree that you should reduce the carbs in your diet as other members on the forum have said. That should bring your levels down. Ask more questions and someone will be able to help.

My diabetic nurse was a little contradictory - first she showed me the picture of that %%*&^^ plate with loads of carbs.
When pressed for detail, she said 30g of carbs at a time - one slice of bread, half a potato, one Weetabix. This is (for normal folk) a tiny amount. I often have less than this (only in one meal per day).

Here is a very good starting point.

You might decide to do it differently .... we're all different.
When I first arrived here I left after a very short time because surely the NHS and doctors know better than this bunch of .... diabetics no?
Well I returned here after getting worse .... unable to get control of blood pressure cholesterol blood sugars weight.
I had read here about loads of people who were saying they had gotten better not listening to the official narrative but to each other.
What did I have to lose?
My health and maybe my eyesight a limb or two.
Here I am doing great on all fronts right now.
Yeah it can be a bit confusing but give this place a try.
Bookmark it in case you have to return ....

Welcome by the way.
