Don't have diabetes
Treatment type
I do not have diabetes
Hi all. Im newly diagnosed type 2 . Iam having a lot of dull type headaches and a lot giddiness to the extent that it effects my driving (my husband got to drive) and feeling sick. Is this a symptom of diabetes? I know I can ask in the doctors but I'm not going until next week and was hoping if any of you on here would know .i would appreciate an answer, thank you in advance.

Hi have you been diagnosed as diabetic by your GP/hospital only your tag says "don't have diabetes" Your giddiness could be caused by several different things including low/high BP or BS

Hi. Yes I have now been diagnosed but yet to see the doctor or nurse. I do have an appointment next week. I was just wondering if this giddiness is dew to being diabetic. I have been like it off and on for ages now and that's why I was asking. Thank you for your reply.

Hi. In short..yes, if your level spikes, if it's pretty high quite quickly...it's more common in those who have had no treatment yet (ie. just diagnosed) and have not altered diet. As is dry mouth, headaches, lethargy.
BUT...a] it could easily be caused by a rang of other unrelated issues..and a number of people who are on meds do from time to time feel a bit light headed, etc etc...
AND (more importantly), I would say that rather than asking does diabetes cause this (ie. high or low blood sugar), the question is really what is raising by blood sugar to this extent (and so..what can I do to keep levels down?) In my little opinion, while diabetes Type 2 may well have been causing such problems...it may be your diet which is a big contributor. I now only feel like that if I eat too many carbs (and I don't mean sugars..I mean simple carbohydrates like bread, cereal, spuds, pasta etc)). So, I'd suggest that if you were eating less of them and maintaining a healthy fluid intake - maybe you'd feel a bit better (whether you are diabetic or not). Good luck.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense, my diet must change (lower carbs) .
thankyou again.

Hi and welcome to the forum, you are in the best place to be on here, ask anything and someone will always answer you. There is lots of advice on here from us all who know how you feel at times. before I was diagnosed Type2 in Jan this year I had a dry mouth for a long time and lethargy, headaches. Went to the doctors in Dec 2015 with a flu virus, a few days later after blood tests was diagnosed diabetic, what a shock to the system it is to us all. Now my lethargy has gone my headaches can cope with the odd one, and dry mouth completely gone, you will be fine. I changed my diet to LCHF and I am on 2 daily Metformin SR tablets and have lost nearly one and a half stone, cut down portion sizes. Good luck:)
