Hi. The NHS may say you can eat all the carbs you want as long as you match the insulin. This advice is not good as you would put on weight, so set a level of carbs that you can tolerate and won't make you gain weight and then adjust the insulin to match that. The lower the carbs, the lower the blood sugar swings due to lower insulin and smaller the number of hypos.
Have you basal tested to make sure your background insulin is correct.
This is a good idea to check whether it's your bolus or basal causing the difference in levels.
You may also of course find hormones kick in at times as well!!

I disagree; the NHS advice is perfectly valid and you won't necessarily put on weight. I eat the same amount of carbs as I did before diagnosis and have not gained weight; as always it's about balancing diet with adequate exercise.
My blended and smoothie foods are quite heavily laden with caden with carbs and still can't put weight on..
Guess Starbucks n Costa must put a lot of **** in theirs cos I'm still struggling despite having huge amounts of carbs (for me) some days!!
I'd agree with others, I still eat a pretty "normal" amount of carbs and I'm fine, though I am only a year into this so that could change when I'm completely out of the honeymoon. I certainly haven't noticed any weight gain!
In terms of eating low-carb you'll find people on here have very varying (and often strong!!) opinions. Going very low carb can sometimes be tricky as eating protein without the presence of at least a small amount of carb can raise your blood sugar, so you'd need to seek advice from your specialist on if/how to inject for that.
