Considering a pump but embarrassed to ask this...

Hi, I'm currently waiting for an appt with the pump specialist to get a pump. My diabetes is completely out of control and despite being really opposed to the idea before, I know I have to try one to see if it helps.

I often go out in very tight skimpy clothes and I'm skinny and small - no space to hide a pump in my bra. Where do people keep theirs?

Also. what on earth do you do with it when you have sex? Im really embarrassed to ask but kind of need to know!

I'd be so grateful to hear from anyone that has one!

You can wear your pump in a pump belt or clip,it to your waistband. When I don't want mine to show in tight clothes, I either put it in a Tubigrip on my thigh or use a bra bag - a holder that hangs from the side of my bra under my arm. That way the line of the clothes isn't spoilt.

For 'intimate moments', as the pump, companies refer to it, you can either leave the pump on and rest it on the bed or whatever, or you can disconnet it temporarily.

Welcome to the forum - from another small and slim person :) My pump changed my life and I haven't had any issues with it or wearing it with whatever clothes I want.

Thank you so much. Its reassuring to hear from someone else with one. Ive only just discovered this site and the forums - Ive until now felt like the only diabetic in the world as I dont know any others. These things are so hard to discuss with non diabetic people!

There are lots of Type 1s and pumpers here and we're all very friendly :) And yes, it's great being able to talk to people who, actually understand what it's like :)

if you look around the Pump, section here you'll see a number of threads asking about wearing pumps and general questions. You can do a Search too if you like.

I've had my pump 13 years and would never give it back! It takes a little getting used too, of course, but the benefits are huge, in my opinion.

I'm quite small and had similar thoughts before I got my pump. I wear mine just tucked in my bra, yeah it's looks a bit wonky, but you'd have to be looking close... and i guess if it really bothered you you could compensate on the other side if you search around online people have all sorts of inventive suggestions.

I was cautious before getting my pump, and it does take some effort to get used to but I agree with azure - I wouldn't give it back.

As for sex, it only takes a second to unclip and although you could leave it on I usually unclip mine as I think oh is a bit weirded by the idea of accidentally ripping it out.

I haven't really found that there are any clothes I can't wear due to my pump from skinny dresses, gym wear even a bikini, I just clipped it on the side of my bikini bottoms - think some people thought it was a pager, but hey ho .

At the end of the day if you give it a go and can't get on with it you can always go back to mdi's. Good luck whatever u chose.

Pump
Hi @letitia7778 & welcome! I've had a pump since last April & think it's amazing. I hardly even remember it's attached to me! Certainly as @azure & @Esther444 have said there are discreet ways of wearing it. I mostly wear mine in a 'Hid in' belt around my waist. I do sometimes wear it in a little bag clipped to the side of my bra too. Yes for those 'moments' - it can be easily unclipped! Good luck & let us know when you get one.

I just unplug it and throw it away from me, in a draw, on the floor, on the bedside table or wherever it lands, I'll find it after ;-)
