Constant high blood sugar

For the last few days my blood sugars have been sky high and I have no idea why!!

I went to bed last night with a blood sugar of 23, no idea why it was so high so after my levemir I injected 3 units of novorapid. It went down to 17 so I went to bed thinking it would slowly sort itself out. Woke up at 15 but managed to eat and bring my sugars down to 9. An hour later it was 4 so I had soup with a tiny bit of potato and did 2 unit of novorapid. 3 hours later it was 14, and I had a sandwich and fruit, put in 8 units and I just check my sugars and i'm 19. I'm fed fred fed fed up!!!!!!!!!!!

Im constantly worrying about my sugars as they are spiraling out of control for no reason. I've always had good control and now im constantly worried sick!!!

Please help :(

I dont know your history but if i ever spike at those levels i find im coming down with something, are you overly stressed?how long have u been diagnosed ?:(
 
been diabetic type 1 for 11 years... i'm 23 now and in those 11 years i've never been ill, never been hospitalised and in December in the space of 2 weeks i was admitted to hospital twice so something isnt right. hate this stupid condition... its not so much the injections and testing but the constant worry about illness and the future!!!
 
You certainly seem to be doing the right things and like you I don't understand what's going on apart from illness? It's possible you have something like MODY which is known to be difficult to control. If things don't settle I would try to see a good DN or ask to be referred to the db clinic. I guess you know that getting the Basal right is the 1st priority and then the Bolus. I also assume the insulin is OK and hasn't been badly stored by the chemist?
 
I'd go get checked out at the Drs, it may well settle and just be one of those mad patches where for whatever reason, but I'd get checked out for infections (as they normally have the power to send you high!) and then they often like to check thyroid function (not sure what that does to blood sugars) but there are a whole array of other things they could check for too that could explain it and help you get sorted. I hope it settles down soon.

I am having the same problem! I was diagnosed type 1 about 9 years ago & I am now 49. I usually suffer loads of Hypos,especially over the last 4 weeks after changing my Pens to a New Echo Pen. Then out of the Blue Sat, Sun & today I have woken up 29.1, 28.9 & 29.2 I feel terrible & dont understand this at all! I went to bed on a 15.1 but took 1.5 of Novorapid & 5 of Levemir (My usual Dose) and back to square 1 again this morning! I have NO DSN at my doctors! I have called the Hospital DSN & left a message but they say on the answerphone I may not get a call back today! Really worried & dont understand this retched disease!

As others have said it may be an infection or virus that's causing the highs. The one annoying thing is that sometimes when sugars go high we never find out the actual reason behind it. Have you discussed your background (basal) insulin with your DSN? That does need to change from time to time (and for others more often than that). So it could be that you've hit a phase in your life where you just need more insulin? I'm 48 and I need more insulin before periods, during stressed times, when I'll and, as I've said, at 'other' odd times when it's just my body needs more insulin. All the best.
