what if you need to loose lots of weight wont the fat part of it slow the weighloss down ?

here's an online calculator which helps you find how many grams of fat and protein you can have on average per day based on your height, weight, desired weight loss and daily carb intake.

http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/33614154.php

PS. a gram of protein doesn't equate to a gram of meat, you have to find the protein content per 100grams of a foodstuff before you can use it to find your daily limit.

Pluging in my details gives me for 60 grams carbs per day to lose 2 lb a week

72 grams of high quality protein.

This would be supplied by: 12.0 ounces or 337 grams of a high quality protein food like meat, fish, eggs, or cheese, which typically contain 6 grams of protein.

and

Maximum Fat Intake: 63 grams.

I think that something's wrong there
60g carb = 240 cal
72g protein= 288 cal
63g fat = 567cal
total 1095 cal
That seems a very low calorie diet for a man

I plugged in some figures (upped my weight a bit, lied about eating 60g of carbs a day, put in the age and gender correctly I| got more protein than you and 1209 calories to lose 1lb a week.
It wouldn't let' me' lose any more than 1lb a week saying the calorie level would be too low to be healthy.

Interestingly, it recommended protein, not fat to replace carbs.

"you need to eat extra protein, which your liver can convert to glucose."

"read in Diet 101 there is compelling evidence that as carbohydrate intake levels rise out of the ketogenic range, your fat intakes levels need to drop if you are to avoid negative health outcomes."

"This is intended to keep you from eating too much fat, once you have raised your carbs out of the ketogenic range. The rationale for this comes from peer-reviewed studies which suggest that dieters eating non-ketogenic low carb diets do best with a fat intake that stays at 30% or less of total calories. This is explained and documented at length in the book, Diet 101: The Truth About Low Carb Dieting "

So low carb is good, but high fat is bad?

Sandysan - I can well understand your plight. So many foods when eaten regularly become boring and that is when any one of can fall off the wagon. I know, I do and have done often. I had fish n chips today in the restaurant of a well known - first time in approx six months and felt unwell for the rest of the day. For me,I feel that a "balanced diet" is easier to manage although I fear that this may change soon as I may be changing treatment but as long as it last I will continue as,I am. Hope this helps, even if only a little.

hi alamp
the last 3 days is getting real hard for me , and I have done so well in the last 6 weeks im at the stage my minds gone a blank on what to eat again , and im getting very hungry and sick of eating eggs for a snack. nothing seems to be filling me up , I have started having a big bowl of cornflakes for breakfast , but I am hopeless how to work carbs out from the labels on food it just wont register in my head , my blood is ranging 5.2 5.5 , I think I have started to get paranoid with food , if there is something id like to eat I think twice really all I have been eating in this 6 weeks since diagnosis is chiken , eggs, veg, salads, cube cheese, rasher bacon somedays im frightened to eat things my weight has gone to a stand still, I have lost 1 and a half stone from 18st im not 16,half , so I cant really go onto a fat diet , im just stuck at the moment and feel as though again I am going off the rails , picking .at the moment I have a chest infection and was told that my blood g levels may go up , I don't feel well in my self I feel lethargic and no energy ,and I will say that even on a low carb diet it hasn't made any difference to how I feel , in myself ,

it is a long hard road , im due for my 1st ha1bc next month ,

hi all back again

ok about FATS,,,,,,,,,, I understand that fats there is no carbs in it is that right? but if you eat a lot of fats can it affect your cholestral ? I have been eating , bacon , mushrooms, grilled bacon , fried mushrooms in a little butter , and I feel as though im not controlling myself ,, I have got on the scales and have put 2lb on . im about to give up now and just eat what I want , but not the rubbish food , like coke , burgers, chocolate, crips ect ect

Hey Sandy,
Well done your blood levels are really good so it seems you have that side of things under control. Is it just the weight loss that you are
concerned about?
One thing to try and remember is that whatever your food intake is - carb/protein/fats etc at the end of the day you will have eaten a certain amount of energy/calories which needs to be burnt off or it will convert to fat.
Do you manage to get much exercise I wonder? It doesn't necessarily need to be hard aerobic stuff to start with, just plain walking is good and you can increase that as and when you feel up to it.
Keep on keeping on... you can do it
