contour usb meter

Hi, I,ve just bought a Bayer Contour USB blood sugar monitor, and its streets ahead of anything else I,ve had. I,m not advertising for them, as I wrote to them suggesting they send me one for free seeing as I was going to be using there test strips for the foreseeable future and they said no. But having forked out the £25 for one I,m very pleased. Full colour screen, good low temp range, and an end to recording results in the silly little book. You can view your months blood sugar on a graph on your computer as well. It also works as a memory stick. and I got mine with a rubber skin which comes in different colours. It wont be long now before they bring out an MP3 player meter. Well done bayer. Patrick

Picked up my repeat prescription this week and on the needle box was a leaflet for a free Bayer Contour USB blood sugar monitor. I'll fill it and in and see if they send me one.

I'm using an Accu- Check Mobile at the moment, but looking for something smaller so will fill in the form and send it off. Thanks for the info.

I use one too. I get the strips in bulk from ebay at about 21p a testm which seems pretty reasonable (compared to my previous meter which was clost to 50p a test).

Once you fully charge it (in the USB port of your computer) it seems to last forever.

The Glucofacts software isn't the best, but I can live with that.

Hi,
I have ben using the USB meter for a few months now and I think it is one of the best around. I got mine free from my diabetes centre during a carb-counting course. However, 2 weeks ago I was offered a "Freestyle insulinx" meter as a trial. Now I'm torn between the two.
The USB meter is so small, but has a fantastic display screen (I'm partially-sighted, so that's a big plus) and gives really useful, easy to read graphs (once you work out how to get the software to work) and is all I thought I needed in a meter. But this new Freestyle meter has a very clever insulin dose calculator which, with carb-counting, has seen a real improvement in my control within the first week of use. It is a bit bigger than the Contour USB (like a Blackberry phone) and has the software built in for computer downloading results. The biggest downside is that the touch screen is not very easy to see in poor light. If I could get test strips for both meters on my prescription I think I would use the USB for general use, with the Freestyle for keeping a insulin dosing check every few days.
But overall, I'm amazed at how good blood test meters have now become and , as you say, the best thing is that we don't need to keep those books up to date any more!

I rang them after reading good reviews on here, told them I tested 6-8 times a day and asked if they would send me one for free........same answer as you a resounding NO

I filled in the form and have sent it off, if I don't get a free one I'll ring them up and complain. If they want diabetics to use their products then they should give out more 'freebies'.

There are loads of other companies that do send you a free meter - accu-check are good for this - so we can always go else where.

On the home page I see there is an offer at £19.99

I tried to get a free contour usb meter which they would not provide.
They did give me a free contour meter with a free PC data cable and access to the
software
