Contradictory advice... Help please

On my sheet it s "You must not take alcohol the night before the test"
On another British website it states that you must not take alcohol for 48 hours before the test.
Others say you can smoke and others say you cannot smoke before the test???

Why is alcohol not permitted before the test? Does alcohol really affect sugar levels that much? And why is smoking not allowed, how does smoking affect your blood sugar levels?

As far as I know you can smoke. I did and they knew I did and didn't say anything. Alcohol causes the blood sugar to sink drastically sometimes so if you have a lot of alcohol before the test then the readings would be inaccurately low. This is what I have read.
 
At first they do but then they cause it too sink. I think there is so info on this site about it. If you search alcohol and diabetes. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that is what I read.
 
Yeah the alcohol will cause a fairly significant rise in BG, but then lots more will flow out of the kidneys. We all know how many times ya gotta pee when having a night out drinking. Alcohol is a diuretic.
So this combination of high BG and alcohol being present you get a big drop as you pee it out. D
 
Also alcohol affects the liver and whilst the liver is disposing of alcohol it can't release Glycogen (Glucose) into the blood which is why you have to be careful with too much injected insulin, when drinking, as the liver can't rescue you from a hypo.
