Hi @samd194 and welcome to the forum :)

Have you made your diabetes care team aware of your problems, if not then I suggest you contact them as they are the best people to help you move forward (especially as you are planning to get pregnant).

I'll tag some lady members who may offer up some support and advice @azure @Mrsass

Hi @samd194 ,

Welcome to the forums.

Firstly, comiserations with regard to your family losses. But what aspects of injecting are you struggling with? Is it the time/work constraints, or just plain old motivation?

Hi @samd194

Sorry to hear about your family losses. That must be very hard for you, and I can understand why diabetes has taken a back seat.

But you clearly want to take back control of it, so that's a good thing. Can I ask if you're eating ok? Are you misding injections because you're not eating, or have got out of the routine of regular meals?

Do you test your blood sugar regularly?

You've mentioned that you want to get pregnant. Let that be the motivation to get back your control again. Think about your hopes for the future and get the diabetes back in its place and under control.

Hi everyone I have just fallen out of routine and sometimes miss them I have tried so hard to do them again but I start doing so well and then fall back to not doing them i have explained this to my diabetes care team but they haven't really helped me they just send me regular appointments every 12 weeks I am aiming and focusing on getting pregnant but I just feel like I wont get the control back that I need it's really hard

Hi @samd194 could you maybe try placing your bg machine & injections near to either where you sit to eat or where you will see them when preparing food to help trigger your mind to do it? You could then hopefully fall into the routine before each meal.

As you may be aware it's best to have good bg control and hba1c before getting pregnant as this is best for you and baby, so as mentioned above could you try to use that to motivate yourself to get that routine going?
Try to Take 1 day at a time and when you get up each morning tell yourself you WILL focus and inject before meals.

I'm sorry your diabetes team don't seem to be very supportive, did you explain to them fully? You could look into changing hospitals and seeing a different DSN?

Food is firmly linked with injections in my mind. When I was on MDI I used to put my injection pen on the table where I ate, along with my blood meter. You could also try setting alarms on your phone to remind you, particularly for the basal which isn't linked to food in the same way.

I think you have to get back into a routine. Don't try to be perfect all at once, but do set up a system that works for you so that you don't forget. It may take a while, but hopefully injections will be embedded back in your mind again soon.
