controlling diet when homeless

Hi all, as I am about to leave tied accommodation and popped down to my local housing office to try and get somewhere to live it was interesting to be told this:

You should not have left your employment no matter how much it effected your health.

Diabetes is not a reason for priority housing

In terms of housing you have no disability.

We can put you in B&B but cannot say if your diet requirements can be met.

All this came as a shocker that a 5 min interview a non medical trained person can diagnose anything :? :?

Anyone else had problems like this?

Hi wiz

I am sorry to hear about your problem, unfortunately there is a chronic housing shortage in the UK and what the housing advisor told you is bog standard advice.

Are you claiming JSA or Income Support or Incapacity Benefit? If you have left the job voluntarily you probably have to wait 8 weeks before you can put in a claim.

How did your illness affect your job? Which area do you live, are you male or female and how old?

No I am not nosey, I am asking these questions because I am not sure what to advise now, I need further details I have worked within the homeless/housing sector for 21 years, please send me a PM if you like.

Love from

Hi wiz
Sending you best wishes and good luck for your endeavours

Like Karen says, if you can show that you had to leave work due to lack or reasonable adjustments or whatever to your condition then effectively that is discrimination and you did not make yourself voluntarily homeless
In terms of B and B, maybe if you can access this, then you could maybe speak directly to owner so discuss breakfast needs

Thanks guys, although things seem dark at the moment I am hoping something comes along in next few weeks, I just found it rather annoying that all my life I have followed the rules, paid taxes and all on time, then in my time of need I'm treated like dirt.

Instead of creating false reasons and getting a place to live fast, I was truthful and honest and it got me nowhere.

Think it shows in some ways honesty is not always the best policy.

Anyway my diet is out the window at moment and as soon as i get somewhere can get back on track and get that Blood sugar back down :D :D
