Cooking in halogen oven

Why not wash up the disposable trays - I do. This way I get more than one use out of each tray. I also get my neighbour to rinse his out and then use them as well. Bit of tin foil over the top for the lids - no problems.
We wash our plastic containers after use.

The only time they get disposed of is when they are dropped on the floor with frozen content in that breaks the corners which happens at times.

I have had halogen ovens for some time - the first one started to squeak, so I got another, they are not expensive. I find that they are very handy - I do not use the big oven at all now. I roast all sorts of meat in mine. Large joints can be put on the low rack and cooked with vegetables around it, chops or steaks can be put in a casserole dish to save the bother of washing the bowl.

Ah, I see. If you wish a more grilled dish? You could use a grill & catch any mess lining the base with tin foil..

This is the sort of thing I meant in my last reply?
Here it is applied to grilling bacon.. Though personally I would line it up on the tray rack, allowing any excess fat to drop through just leaving just the rack to clean..

But you could use something like a George Forman grill, if you have access to one..?

I found the George foreman grills do not get hot enough, the food becomes tough and greasy - to my taste anyway. The halogen oven, being enclosed tends to be humid enough not to dry out foods.

I wouldn't disagree with you on that point, Resurgam. the GF grill by design is "meant" to cook "lean". But I've never seen any evidence of this... It's a Brevil on steroids. ;)

I have always used a conventional gas oven, wrapped gutted & seasoned fish (trout.) in wetted newspaper parcels...
I'm no ***** Cradock. Just trying to address the OP's adversity to washing up... Which is a shame. Because I find washing up quite relaxing.. We don't even own a dish washer.

We had a Ronson griller similar to the GF griller and that did not get enough either, but it made a top toasted sandwich maker - four at a time. :)

I found the large Gf do not get hot enough. It the small ones sure do. They sear meat. The larger one just dries is all out. To the trash that went but still have two small ones. Odd isn't it?

One of my favourites - cheese, onion and tomato toasties.

Curse this low carb diet. :D

When i think of how "experimental" I used to be "back in the day" before I got married... I used to make a sort of "French toast" version of the C,O & T in a frying pan... But I digress it made a hell of a mess..
My wife is pretty **** good & LC aware...

Hi, I used a portable halogen oven at work for the first time, last week, in from to f customer's ( first time cooking in public, so I was a little anxious !) it was n't bad at all. I first used it to toast bread, then I used it to cook some fairy cakes, the cakes weren't huge,( it was a new brand of cake mix) Easy to clean out to and some of the customer's talked about how they only use a halogen now, never the main cooker oven. So I was quite impressed. I know pizza's, vegetables and pasta have been cooked in it too.

We've had a halogen for years, and I never switch the big gas oven on nowadays.
The halogen can do anything a normal oven can do, plus grilling, some foods can cook from frozen too (but be careful to check each recipe before trying that!)

The advantages to me are that it
- lives on countertop (no bending when my back won't bend)
- i can see the food cooking through the glass sides
- no pre-heating, and it cooks more quickly than a conventional oven
- perfect size for just the two of us
- you can wash it in the kitchen sink
- it cost me £40

There are millions of halogen oven recipes out there, on you tube and designated sites and even forums.
Just google.

Google is very good for sourcing recipes for all types of cooking, I hope the OP can get a win looking. :D

When I use a small dish to cook in I often use it to eat from too, and as the food doesn't get baked on it is a wipe clean clear up.
